Then, (the Bodhisattva) said to those deer, "You jump on my back, hold on with your feet, and I will take you to the other shore." Having said this, the Bodhisattva stood firm in the middle of the river. Because Bodhisattvas possess great strength, that river could not move him. He stood there, and the deer jumped onto his back, held on with their feet, and then reached the other shore. As they jumped, their hooves wore away the Bodhisattva's back. After that, the last remaining deer saw this and became doubtful, thinking, "I will certainly not be saved." At that moment, the Bodhisattva saw that it was doubtful and comforted it, saying, "Friend, do not be afraid, you are not in danger of death." Having said this, the Bodhisattva saved that deer, took it to the other shore, and then the Bodhisattva passed away. Monks, what do you think? At that time, the one who was the leader of the deer herd, abiding in the conduct of a Bodhisattva, was myself. Those five hundred deer were none other than these five hundred giants residing in the city of Kushinagara. At that time, the last remaining deer was this Rabzang (善贤, Good Excellent). At that time, when I was afflicted with a terminal illness, he rescued me from this place full of fear and placed me in a place free from fear. Now, when I am afflicted with the disease of death, Rabzang and these five hundred giants have rescued me from the cycle of existence filled with fear and placed me in the ultimate, permanent accomplishment and the blissful Nirvana. Then, the Blessed One said to the venerable Ananda, "Ananda, have you seen anything?" Ananda replied, "Venerable one, I have seen." The Buddha said, "What have you seen?" Ananda replied, "Venerable one, I saw the Blessed One, through the power of taming, leave behind an emanation and depart to some unknown place." The Buddha said, "Ananda, it is just so. It is just so. Ananda, now the Tathagata has only two beings left to be tamed, namely the Gandharva King Rabga (乐喜, Delightful Joy) and the Parivrajaka Rabzang (善贤, Good Excellent). Regarding this, I thought:

Thinking, 'I can easily subdue the wandering ascetic Rabzang. The Gandharva king Rabga is arrogant and lives recklessly, so I should create an emanation, go to the gods of the Thirty-Three, establish the Gandharva king Rabga in the truths, and then come here.' Then the monks asked the Buddha, the Bhagavan: 'Venerable Rabga, what deeds did he do and accumulate that, as a result of those deeds, he was born among the gods and became the king of the Gandharvas? Did he please the Bhagavan or displease him?' The Bhagavan replied: 'It is due to the power of aspiration.' They asked: 'Where did this venerable one make the aspiration?' He replied: 'Monks, in the past, in a bygone age, in this very fortunate eon, when the lifespan of beings was twenty thousand years, a fully enlightened Buddha, endowed with knowledge and conduct, a Sugata, a knower of the world, a supreme guide for those who need to be tamed, a teacher of gods and humans, the Buddha, the Bhagavan, named Light Protector, appeared in the world. At that time, a master of music came from the south and went to Varanasi. Then, because he was a great teacher, King Krki received him and gave him a great collection of resources for enjoyment. The world desires wealth, so he expanded his household and settled down. At that time, in that very Varanasi, there lived a poor layperson. When he saw the musician experiencing great happiness, he became attached to that profession, thinking, 'Through the power of that profession, this one experiences such happiness. This profession is very good!' So he took refuge and kept the precepts for the rest of his life, and at the time of death, he made the aspiration: 'Alas! By this root of virtue, wherever I am born, may I be born into a wealthy, rich, and prosperous family, and may I also become the king of all musicians! May I please the Buddha, the Bhagavan, Light Protector, who prophesied that the Brahmin boy would become the supreme one!'

Do not displease me, so it was done. Monks, what do you think? The one who became a lay follower at that time was none other than the Gandharva king Rabga. By taking refuge there for one lifetime, guarding the precepts, and making aspirations at the time of death, that karma ripened, and wherever he was born, he was born into a wealthy, rich, and prosperous family. Monks, I have attained the same as the perfectly enlightened Buddha Light Protector, with the same power, the same deeds, and the same means. He pleased me and did not displease me. Then, the monks requested the Blessed One: Venerable Blessed One, you see how this person, suffering from a terminal illness, has become so exhausted by the power of taming. The Blessed One said: Not only now, but also in the past, when I was suffering from a terminal illness, listen to how I suffered great pain for the sake of taming. Monks, in the past, in a city called Invincible, there was a king named King Victorious ruling. Later, his queen became pregnant, and after nine or ten months, she gave birth to a son who was handsome, beautiful, and pleasing to look at. They held a grand birth celebration and discussed what name to give the child. They said: This child is the son of the king, so let's name this child Victorious. Then, Prince Victorious was raised with milk, yogurt, butter, ghee, and cream. When he grew up, he was taught to read. The kings, who were empowered from the crown of the royal family, learned various crafts and skills, such as: riding elephants, riding horses, carrying weapons, advancing forward, retreating backward, escaping from the battlefield, grasping with iron hooks, grasping with ropes, shooting giant arrows, shooting single-pointed vajras, stabbing single-pointed weapons, launching wheels, cutting, splitting, and grasping with hands.
