Rejoicing, he circumambulated the Blessed One three times and then disappeared. When he died, the Shakyas were in doubt. "Shakya Archer has broken his vows and drunk alcohol. Where will he go? Where will he be reborn? What will his next life be like? Let us ask the Blessed One about this matter. We should accept whatever the Blessed One prophesies for us." Then many Shakyas went to where the Blessed One was, and when they arrived, they bowed their heads at the feet of the Blessed One and sat down on one side. Having sat down on one side, many Shakyas said to the Blessed One, "Venerable One, Shakya Archer has broken his vows and drunk alcohol. Venerable One, where will he go? Where will he be reborn? What will his next life be like?" The Blessed One said, "Friends, he has been born in the heavens." They asked, "Venerable One, Shakya Archer has broken his vows and drunk alcohol. How was he born in the heavens?" The Blessed One said, "Shakya Archer confessed his broken vows at the time of his death and attained the fruit of stream-entry, and thus was born in the heavens." Then, as soon as they heard this, the Shakyas were amazed. Being amazed, they spoke again, "Oh, Buddha! Oh, Dharma! Oh, Sangha! Oh, how well the Dharma has been spoken, that even beings who are going to the lower realms are rescued from the lower realms and made to go to the higher realms!" Saying this, they engaged even more in honoring the Buddha, the Dharma, and the Sangha. Then the monks said to the Buddha, the Blessed One, "Venerable One, Shakya Archer was afraid and frightened of death, and the Blessed One protected him from the fear of death. Behold, he has been placed in the ultimate state of permanence, having achieved the bliss of Nirvana." The Blessed One said, "It is not only now, but also in the past, he was afraid and frightened of death. He kept the vows for seven days, and listen, he was born in the heavens from that basis. Monks, in the past, in this very fortunate aeon, when the life span of beings was twenty thousand years...

At that time, the World Honored One, Shakyamuni Buddha, appeared in the world. Perfectly and completely enlightened, endowed with knowledge and conduct, Well-Gone, Knower of the World, Tamer of Beings, Supreme, Teacher of Gods and Humans, Buddha, Bhagavan, named Light Treasury Tathagata appeared in the world. At that time, in the city of Varanasi, there was a poor merchant who later developed faith in the teachings of the Perfectly and Completely Enlightened Light Treasury Tathagata. That merchant was very eager to give alms, wanting to practice generosity and accumulate merit. He thought: With my meager possessions, I cannot practice generosity and accumulate merit. I will engage in maritime trade. If I can successfully conduct one maritime trade, I will be able to enrich my parents for seven generations. So, he took his goods and entered the great ocean, engaged in maritime trade, and began to practice generosity and accumulate merit. However, his lifespan was short, and in order for the Perfectly and Completely Enlightened Light Treasury Tathagata to make him feel aversion, the Tathagata said to the monks: This merchant will die in seven days. Upon hearing this, the monks spread the news everywhere, like squeezing oil. That merchant also heard the news, and as soon as he heard the Perfectly and Completely Enlightened Light Treasury Tathagata predict that he would die in seven days, he immediately felt great fear of death. He was terrified and immediately went to where the Perfectly and Completely Enlightened Light Treasury Tathagata was, took refuge in the Light Treasury Tathagata, and took the precepts. After he died, he was reborn, and after passing away, he was born as a deva. Monks, what do you think? The merchant at that time was none other than the present Shakya Staff-Holder. At that time, he also feared death and guarded the precepts, thereby being reborn in the heavens. Now he also fears death, guarding the refuge and the precepts, even higher than before.

And also attained going to happiness and going to liberation. The story called "The Subdued One" is as follows: The foundation was that he was residing in Shravasti. At that time, there was a Brahmin in Shravasti who took a wife from the same caste. He played and rejoiced with her, and after some time, his wife became pregnant. After nine or ten months, she gave birth to a handsome, beautiful, and lovely boy. They held a grand birth celebration for him and gave him a name that suited his caste. They raised him with milk, yogurt, butter, ghee, and the essence of ghee. When he grew up, they taught him writing, the conduct of Brahmins, behavior, the word "Om" (藏文:ༀ,梵文天城体:ॐ,梵文罗马拟音:oṃ,汉语字面意思:嗡), and the word "Bho" (藏文:བྷོ་,梵文天城体:भो,梵文罗马拟音:bho,汉语字面意思:勃), as well as cleanliness, rituals, taking ashes, holding pills, the explanation of the Vedas, the sacrifice of the Vedas, the poetry of the Vedas, the politics of the Vedas, the act of sacrifice, making him perform sacrifices, giving, receiving, reciting, and teaching him how to recite. He became a Brahmin skilled in six professions and eventually became proficient in eighteen fields of knowledge. Then, when he was sixteen years old, he understood all the treatises and refuted all arguments. Then he made a vow of debate, saying, "There is no one equal to me, let alone superior." He was arrogant with the pride of debate and despised all the Brahmins. Then one day, those Brahmins thought, "The ascetic Gautama is the one who subdues the unsubdued, so this boy should be shown to the ascetic Gautama. Even if he ordains him, we will be liberated from this." So, those Brahmins who had been despised by him told the boy about the Buddha, the Bhagavan, saying, "You are like our son, and since there is no one equal to you, let alone superior, what is the use of being arrogant with the pride of wisdom? The ascetic Gautama is beautiful in body and mind, and he is all-knowing and all-seeing, so you should observe his appearance.
