Speaking harsh words, because taking hair from him is easier than you shaving your own hair, the maturation of that karma caused that wherever he was born, his hair was shaved. Because you took bathing utensils from him, it is easier for you to sink into the mud of feces, the maturation of that karma caused that wherever he was born, he remained in the mud of feces. Because you took food and drink from that Arhat, it is easier for you to eat and drink feces and urine, the maturation of that karma caused that wherever he was born, his body emitted the smell of feces and he ate feces. Because he served according to the Dharma and practiced celibacy for a lifetime, and at the time of death he made a prayer, may he be born in a wealthy and rich family with great enjoyment wherever he is born in the future, the maturation of that karma caused that wherever he was born, he was born in a wealthy and rich family with great enjoyment. Monks, I have attained the same state as the Fully Enlightened Buddha Light Protector, with the same power, the same deeds, and the same methods, and these people have made me happy and have not made me unhappy, and they have renounced in my own teachings, abandoned all defilements, and realized the state of Arhat. The monks asked, what karma did those five hundred hungry ghost monks do, that the maturation of that karma caused them to be reborn as hungry ghosts? What karma did they do, that the maturation of that karma caused them to be reborn as gods, and they also made the Blessed One happy and did not make the Blessed One unhappy? The Blessed One said, monks, they themselves did and accumulated such karma. Monks, in the past, in the past, in this very fortunate kalpa, when the life of beings could last for twenty thousand years, there appeared the Fully Enlightened Buddha, endowed with knowledge and conduct, the Sugata, the Knower of the World, the Tamer of Men, the Unequaled, the Teacher of Gods and Men, the Buddha, the Blessed One, Light.

A person named "Protector" appeared in the world. In his teachings, all these became lay practitioners. The monks would go to them, repeatedly asking for clothes, food, bedding, mats, medicine, and medical supplies. Being controlled by stinginess, they spoke harsh words to the monks, saying, "These ascetics of Kashyapa are like hungry ghosts, always relying on others, how detestable!" Monks, what do you think? Those who became five hundred lay practitioners at that time were the same five hundred hungry ghosts. Due to the maturation of the karma of speaking harsh words to the monks there, they were born as hungry ghosts for five hundred lifetimes. They took refuge in the teachings of the perfectly enlightened Buddha Kashyapa, protected the precepts, and matured their faculties, thus they were liberated in this way. The fifth verse of the summary from the Hundred Deeds is completed. The fifth verse of the summary.
