Thinking that I should send someone first and then go myself later. Then, the Blessed One said to the venerable Maudgalyayana, "Maudgalyayana, go and persuade Shakya Arrow-stack." Then, the venerable Maudgalyayana replied, "Yes, Blessed One." Then, he went to Shakya Arrow-stack's residence with a monk who followed him. Then, Shakya Arrow-stack heard that the monk Maudgalyayana had come to his residence. After hearing this, because of his love for his brother, he went to him, prostrated at his feet, and sat before him to listen to the Dharma. Then, the venerable Maudgalyayana spoke words that would fully ripen him and then left. Then, two days later, the Blessed One sent Ananda. On the third day, he sent the venerable Mahāmaudgalyāyana. On the fourth day, he sent the venerable Shariputra, and the venerable Shariputra taught him the Dharma in such a way that he would develop faith in the Blessed One, causing him to fear and dread death. Then, on the fifth day, the Blessed One, knowing his mind through his divine power, went to Arrow-stack's residence himself. Then, Shakya Arrow-stack saw the Blessed One from afar. Seeing him, he became very happy with the Blessed One. After becoming happy, he prepared a seat for the Blessed One and said to the Blessed One, "Blessed One, please come, Blessed One's arrival is very good, very good. Blessed One, please sit on the prepared seat." Then, the Blessed One sat on the prepared seat. Shakya Arrow-stack bowed his head at the feet of the Blessed One and sat before him to listen to the Dharma. Then, the Blessed One said to Shakya Arrow-stack, "Arrow-stack, this fear of death is only a small thing among all fears. For example, the suffering of the evil realms of sentient beings in hell, animals, and hungry ghosts is the greatest of all fears." He asked, "Venerable, what are the hells of sentient beings like?" Then, in order to make him feel disgusted, the Blessed One led him by means of miraculous power to the great hell of sentient beings.

After explaining, he asked: Venerable one, what will cause me to be born here? The Blessed One said: Killing, if constantly practiced and cultivated, and done in large quantities, will cause beings to be born in hell. If one dies and transmigrates from there, and is born here with the same fate as humans, one will also have a short life. Similarly, the Blessed One explained to him in detail the path of the ten non-virtuous actions. Upon hearing this, he became even more frightened, thinking: If I do not guard the precepts I have received from the Blessed One, will I not be born in hell, as an animal, or as a hungry ghost? He confessed those broken precepts and sat before the Buddha to listen to the Dharma. Then, the Blessed One taught him the Dharma that was appropriate for him. Therefore, Shakya Dathog, while sitting on that very seat, destroyed the twenty high peaks of the mountain of viewing the aggregates with the vajra of wisdom, and manifested the fruit of entering the stream. He saw the truth, died, and was reborn as a god. As soon as he was reborn as a god, he thought: From where did I die and transmigrate? He saw that he had died and transmigrated from being a human. He thought: Where was I born? He saw that he was born as a god. He thought: What karma did I do? He saw that he had guarded the precepts at the time of death and had also made the Blessed One happy. He thought: It is not my place to wait a long time before going to see and serve the Blessed One. So, wearing earrings and bracelets that swayed, his body adorned with necklaces and armlets, wearing a headdress adorned with various jewels, his body smeared with saffron, tamala leaves, and kara and other spices, that very night he filled containers with heavenly udumbara flowers, lotuses, water lilies, white lotuses, and mandārava flowers, went to where the Blessed One was, scattered the heavenly flowers, and sat before the Buddha to listen to the Dharma. Then, the Blessed One taught him the Dharma that was appropriate for him and sat without saying a word. Then, he realized that the Blessed One's teaching had ended and praised and rejoiced in the Blessed One's words.
