Because of joy, I listened to his words and believed them, and he said that this was my own fault. Then he said in verse: 'Born in the lower eight caves of Skinkor.' I believed the words of the tortoise, because I was foolish and had shallow views. An ignorant and evil person should be despised by the holy ones. Monks, what do you think? Who was the being who became a tortoise at that time? It was this venerable Upāli. Who was the Var at that time? It was this monk. At that time, he did not allow this person to enter his sphere of activity, and this person went there and suffered great pain. Now he does not allow this person to enter his sphere of activity, and this monk went there and suffered great pain. The so-called 'monastery dweller' was residing in Śrāvastī. At that time, in Śrāvastī, there lived a wealthy householder with many possessions, possessing great wealth, possessing vast, immense wealth equal to the wealth of Vaiśravaṇa, and wealth comparable to the wealth of Vaiśravaṇa. He took a wife from the same lineage and played, rejoiced, and enjoyed happiness with her. Later, his wife became pregnant, and that being was also a bhavāntaka, and the patron of that house was the venerable Aniruddha. He saw that the being of the last existence had taken rebirth in that house. Then, in order to make that householder firm, he went to that house alone, without a companion, without a servant. The householder saw the venerable Aniruddha and said, 'Venerable, why do you not have a servant? You come alone without a companion or attendant.' The venerable Aniruddha said, 'Our servants are only those given by people like you, so our servants are only occasional.' The householder said, 'Venerable, my wife is pregnant, and if she gives birth to a boy, I will offer him to the venerable as a servant.' Aniruddha said, 'Those good people are firm in their vows.' After saying this, he left. That householder's wife, when she became pregnant

After becoming an empty space, he went to a very secluded place to live, and from then on he did not like to live in crowds. Then, the householder thought: Could it be that my wife has been possessed by some evil spirits? So he took her to see the fortune tellers, and the fortune tellers said: This is not being possessed by evil spirits, but because there is a sentient being in her belly, and that sentient being likes to be alone. After that, the householder's wife became pregnant for nine or ten months, and gave birth to a boy who was handsome, beautiful, fair-skinned, golden in color, with a head like an umbrella, long arms, a wide forehead, a high nose, and a good-looking nose. So, a grand birth ceremony was held, and they discussed what to name the boy. Because it was prophesied that this boy would like to be alone before he was born, so the boy was named "Gonpaba" (meaning "one who lives in a secluded place"). After that, the boy Gonpaba was raised on milk, yogurt, butter, ghee, and butter essence, and after he was able to walk, the boy naturally remembered his past lives. He saw that in the cycle of reincarnation, he suffered great pain because of the faults of the world. After seeing this, he liked to go alone to a very secluded place, and lived there to avoid the faults of the world. Then, one day, the Venerable Ma-a-ga-ma knew that the time for him to be ordained had come, and said to the householder: Householder, before this boy was born, you had already promised to give him to me as a servant. Those good people are steadfast in their vows, didn't you vow like that? The householder said: Venerable, I did vow like that. After saying that, he held the boy in both hands and offered him to the Venerable Ma-a-ga-ma, and said: Child, before you were born, you were already offered to the Venerable as a servant, go and be a servant to the Venerable! The boy said: This is beneficial to me. After saying that, the boy followed the Venerable Ma-a-ga-ma. The Venerable Ma-a-ga-ma also taught the Dharma to the householder, and then took the boy
