It is difficult to reach and the splendor is unbearable, so we cannot report to the Blessed One. The Venerable Ānanda said: It is also difficult for me to reach all the Buddhas, the Blessed Ones, but out of compassion for you, I will report. Having said that, the Venerable Ānanda draped his upper garment over one shoulder, and with his palms joined together towards where the Blessed One was, he said to the Blessed One: Venerable, who is this sentient being who can remember past lives, speak human language, and report and ask questions to the Blessed One? The Blessed One said to the Venerable Ānanda: Ānanda, this sentient being is one who commits sinful deeds, and has committed many sinful deeds. Ānanda, in the past, in a bygone era, there appeared in the world a Buddha, a Blessed One, a Tathāgata, an Arhat, a perfectly enlightened Buddha, surpassing the level of Śrāvakas and Pratyekabuddhas, endowed with knowledge and conduct, a Sugata, a knower of the world, a guide for those who need to be tamed, unsurpassed, a teacher of gods and humans, a Buddha, a Blessed One, named 'Radiant Light'. At that time, an Arhat, together with five hundred Arhats, was traveling and went to a royal palace. They went to the garden of that king, and like old men, they spread grass under each tree, sat in the lotus position, and experienced the bliss of meditation, liberation, concentration, and absorption. Then, at that time, in that very royal palace, there was a king named Strong, who would rise early in the morning and, attended by a retinue of women, would go to that garden. When he arrived there, he sat to one side, and those women, craving flowers and fruits, wandered around, and as a result, those women saw those five hundred monks sitting under the trees like dragon kings, with their bodies crossed and as if asleep. Having seen them,

Great joy arose. Having arisen joy, they prostrated at the feet (of the Buddha). They sat down in front of the eldest among them in order to listen to the Dharma. Then, that king heard the sound coming from that garden. Having heard it, he took a sharp sword around his neck. He went to where those monks were, and that king saw those five hundred monks from afar. Having seen them, he thought, 'The monks have not seen my retinue of consorts, have they?' A great entanglement of anger arose, and as soon as he saw them, that king summoned those who lived on the king's leftovers and commanded them, 'Whip these monks!' Then, after a while, they whipped them, and the bodies of those monks became completely ulcerated, like black flesh paste. Then, after he had whipped those monks to his heart's content, he handed them over to the executioners, saying, 'Today, some of these ordained ones, impale them alive on stakes and stab them with swords, short spears, large arrows, single-pointed vajras, and broad-headed spears. Some, give them alive to the dogs. Some, cut their bodies into six pieces and throw them in all directions.' Then, those people of the king said, 'We will do as you say.' And so, some of those five hundred monks were impaled alive on stakes and stabbed with swords, short spears, large arrows, single-pointed vajras, and broad-headed spears. Some were given alive to the dogs. Some were cut into six pieces and thrown in all directions. Monks, what do you think? That one who became king at that time is this very being. Due to the ripening of the karma of killing those five hundred Arhats there, he was born in the great hell of Avici. Due to the ripening of the karma of looking at those monks with hatred, he became blind. Due to the ripening of the karma of whipping those monks, his body became completely ulcerated and covered with wounds. From the crown of his head down to the soles of his feet, he was infested with worms.

Therefore, they handed those over to the executioners, and some were impaled alive on bare trees and stabbed with swords, short spears, large arrows, single-pointed vajras, and broad-bladed spears; some were given alive to dogs; and some were cut alive into six pieces and scattered in all directions. Due to the maturation of those actions, if he walks on the plain, lions, tigers, leopards, bears, and other iron-clawed animals will appear, and they will cut, cut, and devour his flesh. If he walks in the water, iron-clawed makara fish will appear, and they will also cut, cut, and devour his flesh. If he walks in the sky, crows, vultures, and birds with iron beaks will appear, and they will also cut, cut, and devour his flesh. If he walks in a dense forest, a silk-cotton tree grove will appear, and there swords, short spears, large arrows, single-pointed vajras, and broad-bladed spears will be blown by the wind and fall upon him. If he wants to enter a wall crevice, a mountain cave, or a bird's nest, beings born from karma will appear, holding swords, short spears, large arrows, single-pointed vajras, and broad-bladed spears, and strike his body. They will cut and chop his entire body, and therefore he will experience intense, unbearable, hot, and unpleasant feelings, uttering cries of distress and weeping. Monks, from the time of the perfectly enlightened Buddha of Light until now, this being has died and transmigrated from hell beings, and has been born only as hell beings, and thus he has obtained such suffering. Venerable one, when will this being be liberated from this suffering? In this very fortunate kalpa, five hundred Buddhas will appear, and even until then, this being will die and transmigrate from hell beings, and will still be a being
