The ripening of the karma of burning another's wealth is such that even if one ascends into the sky above, the body will be set ablaze. Because that sentient being has committed such an action, they experience such suffering as the ripening of that karma. Having heard that, many people felt great revulsion. The Blessed One, understanding that their minds were filled with revulsion, taught the Dharma that was in accordance with it, and thus some generated warmth. Some generated tolerance in accordance with the peak and the truth, and equanimity towards the supreme view of worldly dharmas. Some actualized the fruit of stream-entry. Some actualized the fruit of once-returning. Some actualized the fruit of non-returning. Some, having gone forth, actualized the state of an Arhat. Some generated the seed to become a wheel-turning king. Some will become a wheel-turning king of strength, some will become Indra, some will become Brahma, some will attain the Bodhi of a Hearer, some will attain the Bodhi of a Solitary Buddha, and some will generate the seed of Unsurpassed Perfect and Complete Bodhi. Most of those in that assembly were made to incline towards the Buddha, to flow towards the Dharma, and to flow towards the Sangha, and were established in them. The story called 'Son's Perception' is as follows: The foundation was laid while residing in Nyen Du Yö (Shravasti). At that time, there was an old and frail Brahmin in Nyen Du Yö (Shravasti). He went to the grove of King Gyal Je (Jeta Grove) for some matter, and saw the Blessed One sitting amidst hundreds of thousands of attendants, teaching the Dharma. Having seen this, the Brahmin developed the perception of a son towards the Blessed One. With this perception of a son, he went to the Blessed One and embraced the Blessed One's neck. Then the monks, seeing the Brahmin embracing the Blessed One's neck, stopped him. Then, the Blessed One spoke to the monks, saying: Monks, this Brahmin is embracing me because of his love for a son.

Please do not prevent me from grabbing him by the neck. If I do not allow this Brahmin to grab my neck, he will die vomiting warm blood from his mouth. Then, in order to listen to the Dharma, that Brahmin grabbed the neck of the Blessed One and sat before the Blessed One. Then, the Blessed One understood his thoughts, habits, inclinations, nature, and knowledge, and taught him the Dharma accordingly. Therefore, that Brahmin, while sitting on that seat, destroyed the twenty high peaks of the mountain of the view of the aggregates with the vajra of wisdom, and directly realized the fruit of stream-entry. Having seen the truth, he rose from his seat, draped his upper robe over one shoulder, and, bowing with his palms joined together towards the direction where the Blessed One was, said this to the Blessed One: Venerable one, if I can go forth and receive full ordination in the well-spoken Dharma and Discipline, and obtain the state of a Bhikshu, I also wish to practice the pure conduct in the presence of the Blessed One. Then, the Blessed One said to him with the words, 'Come, Bhikshu,' 'Come, Bhikshu, practice the pure conduct.' As soon as he spoke those words, his hair and beard were shaved off, and he became as if seven days had passed. His conduct was as if he had been fully ordained for a hundred years. In his hand, he held a begging bowl and a water pot. Here it is said: By the Tathagata's utterance of 'Come,' his hair was shaved, and he wore the robes. By the Buddha's intention, the clothes were put on, and in an instant, his senses were completely pacified. Then, the Blessed One prophesied to him, and through diligence, practice, and effort, he abandoned all defilements and directly realized the state of an Arhat. He became an Arhat, free from desire for the three realms, equal to gold and dung, possessing a mind like the sky and the palm of the hand, cool like sandalwood soaked in water, having broken the shell of ignorance with wisdom, having obtained wisdom, supernormal powers, and discriminating awareness. Turning his back on the gains, attachments, and honors of existence, he was worshiped, remembered, and respected by the gods, including the powerful and near-powerful ones.

It became a place of silence. Then, the monks requested the Buddha, the Bhagavan: "Venerable One, please behold! Although thousands of people have seen the Bhagavan, no one has run to the Bhagavan saying, 'Meeting with my son,' with the affection of a son, and embraced his neck." The Bhagavan said: "This Brahmin has been my father for five hundred lifetimes immediately after my passing away. It is only because of the past imprints that he says to me with the affection of a son, 'Meeting with my son,' and embraces my neck." The monks requested: "Venerable One, if this Brahmin has been your father for five hundred lifetimes immediately after the Bhagavan's passing away, why is he not your father now?" The Bhagavan said: "Bodhisattvas are attached to giving and renunciation. In all lifetimes, he has obstructed my giving, so I made the aspiration: 'May he not be my father in the future.' Furthermore, Śuddhodana also made the aspiration: 'May I become the father of the Buddha.'" The monks requested: "Venerable One, where did Śuddhodana make the aspiration?" The Bhagavan said: "Monks, in the past, ninety-one kalpas ago, a Fully and Perfectly Enlightened Buddha named Vipashyin appeared in the world. A merchant offered him food and made the aspiration: 'By this root of virtue, may I be born into a wealthy family with much wealth and great enjoyment wherever I am born. May such a precious person also become my son, and may I only please him and not displease him.' He made this aspiration there." After the Bhagavan spoke, the monks asked the Buddha, the Bhagavan: "Venerable One, what actions did this Brahmin commit that caused him to become poor and have an ugly face in old age due to the ripening of those actions?" The Bhagavan said: "Bodhisattvas are attached to giving and renunciation. He has always obstructed my giving and renunciation. He
