With the root of virtue of taking refuge for one lifetime in the teachings of the perfectly enlightened Buddha Light Protector and guarding the bases of learning, may we be mentioned primarily wherever we are born! May we please the Buddha Bhagavan, the Brahmin boy teacher prophesied by the perfectly enlightened Buddha Light Protector! May we not displease him! Thus it was said. Monks, what do you think? Those who became the dragon kings Breath and Great Breath at that time were none other than the great kings Dhrtarastra and Srenyasena, who became the central people. Those who became the kings of the sky-goers, Fine Sound and Small Sound, were none other than the great kings Virupaksa and Vaisravana's son, who became the border people. After they had taken refuge for one lifetime and guarded the bases of learning, they made aspirations at the time of death, saying: Alas! By this root of virtue, may we be mentioned primarily wherever we are born! May we please the Buddha Bhagavan, the Brahmin boy teacher prophesied by the perfectly enlightened Buddha Light Protector! May we not displease him! By the ripening of the karma they did, they are now mentioned primarily among the gods of the retinue of the Four Great Kings. Monks, I have also attained being very similar to the perfectly enlightened Buddha Light Protector, similar in power, similar in deeds, and similar in means. These have pleased me and have not displeased me. When the Bhagavan taught the Dharma to the Four Great Kings and also prophesied the nature of their karma, the ascetic Kainya was also living not far away, and he heard everything. As soon as he heard it, he became delighted with the Bhagavan, and he went to where the Bhagavan was. Having gone, he bowed to the Bhagavan's feet with his head and sat before him to listen to the Dharma. Then the Bhagavan, with his intention and predispositions

And having understood the realms, places, consciousness, and nature, he taught the Dharma that was in accordance with them. Therefore, the sage Kainya, in the moment of realizing the truth, manifestly realized the fruit of non-return. Having seen the truth, he rose from his seat, draped his upper robe over one shoulder, and bowed with joined palms towards where the Blessed One was, and said to the Blessed One: 'Blessed One, together with the Sangha of monks, today in my shade, please accept the non-mealtime drink that I have prepared in this place.' The Blessed One did not say anything to the sage Kainya, thus giving his consent. Then, the sage Kainya, realizing that the Blessed One had given his consent by not saying anything, prepared eight kinds of drinks, namely, the juice drinks of apples, water tree fruits, Indian fig fruits, Ashvattha fruits, Udumbara fruits, Parushaka fruits, peaches, and grapes, and carrying these drinks, he went to where the Blessed One was, and having arrived, he said to the Blessed One: 'Venerable One, these eight kinds of drinks are praised, well-spoken of, lauded, and favorably mentioned by the sages of the past, for the sake of compassion, please accept them, Blessed One.' Then, for the sake of compassion, the Blessed One accepted the eight kinds of drinks of the sage Kainya. Then, there the Blessed One said to the monks: 'Monks, among these eight kinds of drinks, whether filtered with cloth or unfiltered, clear or unclear, turbid or unturbid, good-colored or bad-colored, these drinks, I allow monks, nuns, male novices, and female novices to drink at the proper time, but I do not allow them to drink at the improper time. Monks, among these eight kinds of drinks, those that are filtered with cloth, clear, good-colored, unturbid, and without sediment, are to be drunk at the improper time.'

Then, offering the offerings, he reported to the Blessed One, saying: Venerable, would you please grant me the favor of accepting my offering tomorrow together with the Sangha of monks? The Blessed One did not say anything to the hermit Keniya, indicating his consent. After that, the hermit Keniya, knowing that the Blessed One's silence meant consent, reported to the Blessed One, saying: Venerable, then please stay tonight in this forest where we are. Then, the Blessed One said: Hermit, do as you please. Having said that, the Blessed One disappeared from the bank of the slowly flowing river and stayed with the Sangha of monks in the forest not far from where the hermit Keniya was staying. After that, the hermit Keniya got up before dawn and called out to the Brahmin boys, saying: Noble ones, get up! Beautiful ones, get up! Chop the wood, light the fire, cook the rice, peel the turnips, prepare the food, and make the cushions. That night, the hermit Riva also came to the place where the hermit Keniya was staying. The hermit Riva heard the hermit Keniya getting up before dawn and calling out to the Brahmin boys, saying: Noble ones, get up! Beautiful ones, get up! Chop the wood, light the fire, cook the rice, peel the turnips, prepare the food, and make the cushions. Having heard that, he thought to himself: Is this hermit marrying off his daughter or taking a daughter-in-law? Or is he inviting the villagers, artisans, relatives, attendants, or the king to a feast? Then the hermit Riva said to the hermit Keniya: Hermit, are you marrying off your daughter or taking a daughter-in-law? Or are you inviting the villagers, artisans, relatives, attendants, or the king to a feast? The hermit Keniya said: I am neither marrying off my daughter nor taking a daughter-in-law, nor will I invite the villagers, artisans, relatives, attendants, or the king, but I will invite the Buddha and the Sangha of monks to accept my offering tomorrow. After that, the hermit Riva heard the sound of "Buddha," which he had never heard before, and all the hairs on his body stood on end, and he felt joy.
