May those who have not generated roots of virtue generate them. May those who have already generated roots of virtue fully mature them. May those who have fully matured roots of virtue be pierced by the sword of wisdom. May the world adorned by the appearance of the Buddha become one with fruit, thus entering into the contemplation of wisdom. The ocean is the abode of aquatic creatures, and the waves of time may pass, but for the sons to be tamed, the Buddha will not miss the time. Then the Blessed One thought, "If I preach the Dharma to the four great kings, then the ascetic Kainya and the mountain will also be subdued by me at the same time." Rather, I will preach the Dharma to the four great kings on the bank of the slow-flowing river, and there the ascetic Kainya and the mountain will also be easily subdued by me at the same time. After thinking like this, the Blessed One generated worldly compassion: "Alas! If the four great kings could know my mind and realize that the Blessed One wants to preach the Dharma to us on the bank of the slow-flowing river, then it would be good!" Thus he thought. Then, the four great kings understood the intention of the Blessed One and sent servants, saying, "Go to the bank of the slow-flowing river today and prepare the seats. Scatter the ground with various flowers and prepare incense water. Protect the ascetic Kainya and the mountain, lest others, non-humans, or rakshasas harm them." Thus they commanded. Then, the servants of the four great kings said, "As you command," and went to the bank of the slow-flowing river, prepared the seats, scattered the ground with various flowers, and sprinkled incense water. Then, the ascetic Kainya saw the servants of the four great kings preparing seats on the bank of the slow-flowing river, scattering the ground with various flowers, and sprinkling incense water. Having seen this, the ascetic Kainya asked, "What are you preparing?" They replied, "The Blessed One wants to teach the Dharma to the four great kings, so we are preparing the seats." The ascetic Kainya said, "Can I hear the Dharma from them?"

Or the servants of the four great kings said: The ascetic Gautama teaches the Dharma to them, not to you. He said: Then why do you follow me? They said: Because many attendants will come after them, and we are afraid that they will harm you, so we protect you. The hermit Keniya said: Do you only protect me? Or do you also protect the ascetic Gautama? The servants of the four great kings said: We do not protect the ascetic Gautama, because he himself protects the world, including the gods. Then Keniya thought: Since even the gods are working hard to make offerings to him, the ascetic Gautama must be a person of great magical powers and strength. Then, the Blessed One disappeared from the country of Aduma and went to the bank of the slowly flowing river, and sat on the prepared seat. Then, King Dhritarashtra, attended by thousands of Gandharvas, filled containers with heavenly Utpala flowers, lotuses, water lilies, and white lotuses, went to where the Blessed One was, and upon arriving, bowed to the Blessed One's feet with his head, scattered heavenly Utpala flowers, lotuses, water lilies, and white lotuses on the Blessed One, and then leaned on the east side, facing the Blessed One, with his face turned to the west. Then, King Virudhaka, attended by thousands of Kumbhandas, filled containers with jewels, went to where the Blessed One was, and upon arriving, scattered jewels on the Blessed One, bowed to the Blessed One's feet with his head, and then leaned on the south side, facing the Blessed One, with his face turned to the north. Then, King Virupaksha, attended by thousands of Nagas, filled containers with pearls, went to where the Blessed One was, and upon arriving, scattered pearls on the Blessed One, bowed to the Blessed One's feet with his head, and then leaned on the west side, facing the Blessed One.

The place, the trees, faced east. Then the great king Vaishravana, attended by thousands of yakshas, filled vessels with gold and silver, went to where the Blessed One was, and having arrived, scattered gold and silver on the Blessed One. He bowed his head at the feet of the Blessed One, leaned towards the north, faced the Blessed One, and sat facing south. Among them, two were from border regions, and two were from central regions. Then the Blessed One thought: If I teach the Dharma in the language of the central regions, two will understand, but two will not. If I teach the Dharma in the language of the border regions, two will understand, but two will not. Rather, I should teach the Dharma to each of them separately. Thinking this, the Blessed One spoke to the great king Dhritarashtra: Great king, like this, being separated from the body, feeling cold, consciousness ceasing, activity near pacification, and consciousness extinguished, this is the ultimate end of suffering. When this Dharma discourse was spoken, the great king Dhritarashtra and thousands of gods who shared his merit, developed the Dharma eye, free from dust and stain, towards the Dharma. Then, the Blessed One spoke to the great king Virudhaka: Great king, in this, you should have only the thought of seeing in what is seen; you should have only the thought of hearing in what is heard; you should have only the thought of discerning in what is discerned; you should have only the thought of knowing in what is known, and this is the ultimate end of suffering. When this Dharma discourse was spoken, the great king Virudhaka and thousands of gods who shared his merit, developed the Dharma eye, free from dust and stain, towards the Dharma. Then, the Blessed One spoke to the great king Virupaksha: Ene Mene, Dabba Phu, Dada Bbu, this is the ultimate end of suffering.
