When this Dharma discourse was being taught, the great king Good Eye and thousands of gods who shared the same merit as him, developed the Dharma eye, free from dust and defilement, towards the dharmas. Then, the Blessed One spoke to the great king Vaishravana: Mā śā tu śā (Tibetan, Sanskrit Devanagari, Sanskrit Roman transliteration, Chinese literal meaning), Saṃ śā mā (Tibetan, Sanskrit Devanagari, Sanskrit Roman transliteration, Chinese literal meaning), Sarva datra biratrī (Tibetan, Sanskrit Devanagari, Sanskrit Roman transliteration, Chinese literal meaning). This is the ultimate end of suffering. When this Dharma discourse was being taught, the great king Vaishravana and thousands of gods who shared the same merit as him, developed the Dharma eye, free from dust and defilement, towards the dharmas. Then, the four great kings saw the Dharma, attained the Dharma, realized the Dharma, reached the depths of the Dharma, transcended doubt, and transcended hesitation. They did not rely on others, nor were they led by others. Having obtained fearlessness in the dharmas taught by the Teacher, they rose from their seats, arranged their upper robes over one shoulder, and with palms joined together, turned towards where the Blessed One was, and said to the Blessed One: Venerable One, we have taken refuge! We have taken refuge! We take refuge in the Buddha, the Dharma, and the Sangha. We wish to take refuge and observe the precepts. Then, the Blessed One said to them: Friends, it is good that you say so. Then, the four great kings praised the words spoken by the Blessed One and rejoiced. They bowed their heads at the feet of the Blessed One and then departed from the presence of the Blessed One. After they had departed, the monks asked the Buddha, the Blessed One: Venerable One, what deeds did the four great kings do, that when the results of those deeds ripened, two were born in the central lands and two were born in the borderlands? They also pleased the Blessed One and did not displease the Blessed One. The Blessed One said: Monks, in the past, in a bygone era, in this very fortunate kalpa, there was also a fully enlightened Buddha, endowed with knowledge and conduct, a Sugata, a knower of the world, a tamer of beings, unsurpassed, a teacher of gods and humans, the Buddha, the Blessed One, named Light Protector, who appeared in the world.

arose. At that time, on the terraces of Mount Meru, there also lived two dragon kings named Breath and Great Breath. The two bird kings named Sky Soaring Sound and Sky Soaring Small Sound also lived there. Those two dragons, fearing those two Sky Soarers, went down to the golden ground and lived there. Then, one day, the two dragon king brothers, Breath and Great Breath, became delighted with the teachings of the perfectly complete Buddha Kashyapa. The two of them took refuge and adopted the foundations of training. There, when the two of them took refuge and adopted the foundations of training, those two dragon kings could no longer be overcome by the Sky Soarers, and they emerged from the great ocean and dwelt freely. Then, the two Sky Soarers, Sound and Small Sound, saw those two dragon kings emerge from the great ocean and dwell freely. Having seen them, they also tried to seize them, but they could not harm them even with forceful grasping. They became as heavy as if they had landed on Mount Meru. The two of them asked the two dragons: "Before, you two were afraid of us and went down to the golden ground to live. Now, why are you two dwelling freely, and we cannot harm you even if we try?" The two dragons said: "From the perfectly complete Buddha Kashyapa, we two have also taken refuge and adopted the foundations of training. Therefore, now you two cannot overcome us." The two Sky Soarers said: "Who is this being called Buddha?" Then the two dragons extensively explained the praises of the Buddha to the two Sky Soarers. Then, as soon as they heard that, the two Sky Soarers also developed great joy in the perfectly complete Buddha Kashyapa. Having developed joy, the two Sky Soarers also went to the perfectly complete Buddha Kashyapa. Having taken refuge and adopted the foundations of training, they became harmonious and lived together as companions. Those ones guarded refuge and the foundations of training for one lifetime. At the time of death, they made the aspiration: "Like this, we again"
