Having attained (accomplishment), he made me happy. He did not make me unhappy, but instead renounced the world and entered my own doctrine, abandoning all defilements, and directly realized the state of Arhat. The story called "Worm" is as follows: When the Blessed One Buddha was residing in Jeta Grove in Shravasti, at that time, in a muddy area outside Shravasti, a worm appeared whose head resembled the head of a monk. Its entire body was filled with worms like the tip of a needle. Like the hair of a yak, those worms emerged from its body. Those worms ate it, causing unbearable pain, so they ran around in that muddy area, unable to bear the hunger, and ate the mud. It could not bear the pain, and they rotated each other, stirring up the entire muddy area into a mess. The Blessed One Buddha is the guide of the one and only path, possessing mastery over the two kinds of knowledge and wisdom, skilled in the three unmixed close mindfulnesses, fearless with the four fearlessnesses, liberated from the cycle of the five realms, skilled in the six sense bases, with the seven branches of enlightenment as the field of activity, meditating on the eight liberations, entering into the nine successive abidings, possessing the power of the ten strengths, and uttering the true lion's roar. According to the Dharma, three times during the day and three times during the night, six times day and night, he observes the world with the Buddha's eye: Who is declining? Who is prospering? Who is impoverished and destitute? Who has become miserable? Who is associated with harm? Who is poor, miserable, and associated with harm? Who is inclined towards the lower realms? Who is falling into the lower realms? Who has fallen into the lower realms? Who can I rescue from the lower realms and place in the heavenly realms, liberation, and fruition? Who is sinking in the mud of misconduct, whom shall I pull up by the hand? Who lacks the seven noble riches, whom shall I make the master of the seven noble riches? Who has not generated roots of virtue, whom shall I cause to generate them? Who has already generated roots of virtue, whom shall I cause to fully mature? Who has already fully matured roots of virtue, whom shall I pierce with the sword of wisdom? Whom shall I make possess the world adorned by the appearance of the Buddha, complete with fruits? He observes with the eye of wisdom.

Enough. The ocean is the abode of makaras. Even the waves of time may cease. For the sons who are to be tamed. The Buddha does not miss the opportune time. Then, the Blessed One thought: Now is the time to prophesy about the makara. Relying on it, I must guide many who are to be tamed. Thinking this, in order to guide those many people, the Blessed One blessed the smell of that excrement mud, so that all of Shravasti was filled with that smell. Then, there, many people who were driven by previous roots of virtue were amazed and wondered where these smells came from. Thousands of people became eager to watch. They rushed towards the direction of the smell, which was where the excrement mud was. Those people saw in that excrement mud such makaras circling around each other. Having seen this, they thought: Why is this being experiencing such suffering? Then, the Blessed One thought: All those who are to be tamed by me in Shravasti have now gathered. Thinking this, in the morning he put on his skirt and robes, took his bowl, and was accompanied by the community of monks. He went to Shravasti and arrived at the place where the excrement mud was. Those people saw the Buddha, the Blessed One, from afar. Having seen him, those who did not believe said: It is said that the ascetic Gautama is not greedy for pleasure, but he has also been overwhelmed by the desire to watch, so he has come here. Those who had faith said: The Blessed One must have come here because of this makara, wanting to prophesy some wonderful Dharma. So, they prepared a seat for the Blessed One and said to the Blessed One: Blessed One, you have come well! Please be seated on the prepared seat. Having said this, the Blessed One sat on the prepared seat. Then, the Blessed One thought: How can I make this makara remember its previous lives, and be able to speak human language, and be able to talk to the Blessed One?
