They should rely on it. Then, those two killed that person, skinned him, divided the meat into three parts, and said to that person, 'Hey, man, take your share.' Then, as soon as he heard that, the man stretched out his hands and said, 'Take it,' and his two hands fell to the ground. Then, as soon as they saw that, the two hunters said to that person, 'Hey, what's this?' He replied, 'This (bear) protected me with its body for seven days when there was wind and bad weather, and nourished me with roots and fruits, but I did ungrateful things to it, so I received this result.' Then, as soon as they heard that, the two hunters became very unhappy. They became unhappy and thought, 'This is not an evil being. We two cannot eat such meat that has been raised with loving-kindness. These should be offered.' At that time, the world was adorned by the appearance of the Buddha. The two of them took the meat and went to the temple. After going to the temple, they offered the meat to the Sangha. Then, an Arhat saw the meat and thought, 'This meat has been raised with loving-kindness by the Bodhisattva of the Good Aeon.' Then he said to the monks, 'Venerable ones, this meat has been raised with loving-kindness by the Bodhisattva of the Good Aeon, and it is worthy of offering. We should offer this meat.' After saying that, he spoke in verse: This deer has great fortune, is the yoke on the shoulders of the Bodhisattva, has great compassion, is a place worthy of offering in the three realms. After saying these words, that Arhat, those monks, and those two hunters burned the meat, built a stupa for the relics, and made great offerings. Monks, what do you think? At that time, the one who became a bear and abided in the conduct of a Bodhisattva was myself. At that time, the one who became a man was Devadatta himself, and even at that time, he was ignorant of kindness, ungrateful, and his actions were in vain. One bear
