You are renowned for your great merit. Out of compassion for us, please venture into the great ocean, and through your power, we will be able to acquire wealth. He said, "Alas, according to the laws of the great ocean, the seventh ship will become inauspicious, and no one has ever succeeded in completing seven voyages on the ocean. However, to completely fulfill your wishes, and out of affection only for you, I will go into the ocean seven times." Having said this, the great merchant leader Delight led those five merchant leaders into the great ocean, and they went to the Isle of Jewels, collected jewels, and then sailed the ship back to Jambudvipa. Then, the great merchant leader Delight, while in the great ocean, thought to himself, "It does not seem likely that we, who are dwelling in the great ocean, will reach the other shore safely and without harm. Instead, I will fill sacks with precious jewels and tie them around my waist." So, he filled sacks with precious jewels and tied them around his waist, and said to those merchants, "Alas, if by chance the ship becomes damaged, you must cling to my body." Then, one day, the creatures living in the water destroyed the ship, and the five merchant leaders clung to the body of the merchant leader Delight. Then, the merchant leader Delight thought, "While I am alive, I cannot rescue these people from the great ocean, and the great ocean cannot abide with a corpse, it is impossible, because it is not its place. It would be better if I were to die, and then they would quickly cross the great ocean." So, he said to the merchant leaders, "Alas, be steadfast and greatly increase your joy, and I will surely enable you to cross the great ocean safely and without harm. And after you have crossed, do not abandon my body, but divide and take the sacks filled with precious jewels that I have tied around my waist, and they will be enough to sustain seven generations of both sides of your families."

Alas, by this root of virtue, may I, in a world without a blind person leading, without a complete guide, and without a teacher, become a Tathagata, an Arhat, a perfectly complete Buddha, endowed with knowledge and conduct, a Sugata, a knower of the world, a tamer of beings to be tamed, an unsurpassed one, a teacher of gods and humans, a Buddha, a Bhagavan. Having made the prayer to attain the unsurpassed, perfectly complete enlightenment, he took a sharp weapon and cut his throat.
