Who has become miserable? Who is endowed with harm? Who is poor, miserable, and endowed with harm? Who inclines towards the lower realms? Who falls into the lower realms? Who has fallen into the lower realms? Who is it that I shall rescue from the lower realms and place in the heavens, liberation, and the fruit? Who is it that I shall pull by the hand from sinking in the mud of misdeeds? Who is it that I shall place in the position of being the master of the seven noble riches, from being without the seven noble riches? Who is it that I shall cause to arise from not having generated roots of virtue? Who is it that I shall cause to fully ripen from having already generated roots of virtue? Who is it that I shall pierce with the weapon of wisdom from having already fully ripened roots of virtue? For whom shall I make the world, adorned by the appearance of the Buddhas, together with its fruits? Thus, the vision of wisdom arises. The ocean is the abode of aquatic creatures. The waves of time may pass, but for the sons to be tamed, the time of the Buddhas does not pass. Just as the Buddhas, the Bhagavat, look upon the world with the eye of a Buddha three times during the day and three times during the night, that is, six times during the day and night, so too, the great Shravakas look upon the world with the eye of a Shravaka three times during the day and three times during the night, that is, six times during the day and night. When the venerable Shariputra looked upon the world with the eye of a Shravaka, he saw that a householder and his retinue were ready to be tamed. Then, in the early morning, having put on his undergarment and Dharma robes, and carrying his alms bowl, he went to Shravasti for alms. As he gradually went for alms, when he arrived at the house of that householder, the dog saw the venerable Shariputra. Having seen him, it ran with great force and seized the venerable Shariputra. It tore his Dharma robes. The householder also saw this and stopped the dog, washed the wound, bandaged it with cloth, prostrated at his feet, and said: "Venerable Shariputra, would you please accept a meal here?" The venerable Shariputra did not say anything, and thereby gave his consent. Then, the householder, knowing that the venerable Shariputra had consented by not speaking, spread out a seat and said: "Venerable Shariputra."

Please be seated on the prepared seat. Then, the venerable Shariputra sat on the prepared seat. Then, the householder, realizing that the venerable Shariputra was seated comfortably, personally satisfied him with many clean and excellent foods and drinks from his own hands, and offered him whatever he desired. After personally satisfying him with many kinds of clean and excellent foods and drinks from his own hands, and offering him whatever he desired, the venerable Shariputra, after eating his meal that day, did not give the leftovers to the dog, and the dog, having eaten, looked at his face. Then, the householder, realizing that the venerable Shariputra had finished his meal and that the bowl had been washed, sat before him in order to listen to the Dharma. Then, the venerable Shariputra, understanding the thoughts, habits, faculties, and nature of the householder and his retinue, taught them the Dharma accordingly. Having heard this, the householder and his retinue, while still seated, destroyed the twenty high peaks of the mountain of the view of the aggregates with the vajra of wisdom, and directly realized the fruit of stream-entry. Having seen the truth, he took refuge and adopted the precepts, saying: Venerable Shariputra, for as long as I live, please accept from me robes, food, bedding, seats, medicine for the sick, and medical supplies. The venerable Shariputra said: Householder, it is also necessary to benefit others, so let go. Having said this, he rose from his seat and left. There, when the householder saw the truths, took refuge, and adopted the precepts, he began to give alms and perform meritorious deeds. The venerable Shariputra was also invited from time to time and offered meals. The venerable Shariputra also, after eating his meal, did not give the leftovers to the dog. The dog also became very fond of the venerable Shariputra, and having become happy, when the venerable Shariputra came to that house, the dog would greet him, lick his feet, wag its tail, and circle him three times. There, when the venerable Shariputra taught the Dharma and then left, the dog would escort him to the end of the road.
