At that time in Shravasti, there was a householder, wealthy and with much wealth, with great enjoyment, holding wide and vast possessions, possessing the wealth of Vaishravana's son, rivaling the wealth of Vaishravana's son, delighting in non-Buddhists. Then, he took a wife through expedient means, and he and she played together, rejoicing and enjoying themselves. After he played and rejoiced and enjoyed himself, his wife became pregnant, and after nine or ten months, she gave birth to a son, with a good form, pleasing to see and beautiful, with a good complexion, the color of gold, with a head like an umbrella, long arms, a wide forehead, a high and well-formed nose, and thick eyebrows. Then, they held a grand birth celebration for him, named him according to his lineage, and raised him with milk, yogurt, butter, ghee, and the essence of ghee, and he grew rapidly like a lotus in a lake. Then, when he was able to walk, in order to let him play, the father kept a small female dog in the house. When the small female dog saw other non-Buddhists, she would run and bite them, even tearing their clothes. When she saw monks, she would run to them, lick their feet with her tongue, and wag her tail.
