用牛奶、酥油、炼乳和酥油的精华来养育，像海中的莲花一样迅速成长。当他长大后，学习文字、算术、说笑、手算、加法、减法、乘法、除法、辨别衣物、辨别宝石、辨别珍宝、辨别香料、辨别药物、辨别大象、辨别马匹、辨别武器，精通文字、擅长阅读、聪明、做事干脆利落、心思正直，精通八种辨别之法。之后有一天，具寿者莫嘎拉那看见那个孩子到了可以出家的年龄，早上穿上裙子和法衣，拿着钵去舍卫城乞食。他依次乞食，到了那户人家，在铺好的座位上坐下。坐下后，具寿者莫嘎拉那对那户人家说：‘居士，这个孩子在未出生之前，你就已经答应把他给我做侍者了。你们这些善良的人都是信守诺言的，难道不是这样吗？’居士说：‘圣者，确实是这样答应的。’说完，他双手抓住那个孩子，交给具寿者莫嘎拉那，说道：‘孩子，在你未出生之前，我就已经把你献给圣者了，去侍奉圣者吧。’孩子说：‘这对我很有帮助。’说完，那个孩子就跟着具寿者莫嘎拉那走了。具寿者莫嘎拉那把那个孩子带到寺庙，让他出家，授了比丘戒，并且还给他传了法。之后，他日夜精进修行，却没有任何进步。又过了一段时间，他生病了。他的父母听说儿子生病了，立刻带着医生和所有用具，赶到寺庙。他们用各种用具进行治疗，但还是无法治好。于是他们想：‘如果我们两个都待在寺庙里，那么家里的很多事情都会耽误。’

Having nurtured him with milk, butter, clarified butter, and the essence of butter, he grew rapidly like a lotus in the sea. When he had grown up, he was taught writing, arithmetic, storytelling, manual calculation, addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, discerning clothes, discerning jewels, discerning precious stones, discerning incense, discerning medicine, discerning elephants, discerning horses, and discerning weapons. He became skilled in writing, proficient in reading, intelligent, clear in his actions, upright in mind, and adept in the eight kinds of discernment. Then, one day, the Venerable Maudgalyayana saw that the boy had reached the age for ordination. In the morning, he put on his lower garment and robes, took his bowl, and went to Shravasti for alms. As he gradually went for alms, he went to the house of that householder and sat down on the prepared seat. After sitting down, the Venerable Maudgalyayana said to the householder: 'Householder, before this boy was born, you had already promised to give him to me as a servant. You virtuous people are steadfast in your vows, aren't you?' The householder said: 'Venerable, that is indeed what I promised.' Having said this, he took the boy with both hands and presented him to the Venerable Maudgalyayana, saying: 'Son, before you were born, I had already offered you to the Venerable. Go and serve the Venerable.' The boy said: 'That will be of great benefit to me.' Having said this, the boy followed the Venerable Maudgalyayana. The Venerable Maudgalyayana took the boy to the monastery, ordained him, gave him the full ordination, and also gave him teachings. After that, he stayed there striving diligently without sleeping at night or at dawn, but he did not attain any special qualities. Then, one day, he became ill. His parents heard that their son was ill, and immediately brought a doctor and all the necessary equipment, and went to the monastery. They attended to him with all kinds of equipment, but they were unable to cure him. Then the two of them thought: 'If we both stay in the monastery, then many of the household affairs will be neglected.'

想到“把这个孩子带回家，就在那里照顾他吧”。于是向具寿莫断的脚下顶礼，说道：圣者请知晓。我们两个如果在这里，那么家里的很多事情都会耽误。如果我们两个把这个孩子带回家照顾，请您允许。之后，具寿莫断想到：这个比丘会在那个家里现证阿罗汉果，父母和家人也会安住于真谛。具寿莫断说道：你们两个按照喜欢的方式做吧。听到这话之后，那个家主就把那个比丘带到自己家里，按照医生的嘱咐，用所有用具照顾他。那个比丘也住在那个家里，因为疾病而感到厌倦，通过精进、修持和努力，断除了所有烦恼，现证了阿罗汉果。他获得阿罗汉果后，了解了父母和家人的想法、习气、根性和自性，宣说了与他们相应的佛法。听到这些后，那个家主和眷属一起坐在那个座位上，用智慧金刚摧毁了二十座高耸的坏聚见山顶，现证了入流果。他让父母安住于真谛，回忆起自己的前世，想到“我从哪里死后，又投生到哪里呢？”。他从人死后，又投生为人，看到一切都是疾病缠身，寿命短促。他想到“我作为一个凡夫，经历了这样的痛苦。现在我已经完成了要做的事情，我为什么还需要这样的痛苦呢？不如让我进入寂灭的境界吧。”于是示现了燃烧、明亮地坐着、下雨和闪电的神变，进入了无余涅槃的境界。他完全涅槃后，父母用那个

Thinking, "Let's take this child home and take care of him there." Then, prostrating at the feet of the venerable Maudgalyāyana, he said: "Holy one, please know. If we two are here, then many household affairs will be neglected. If we two take this child home and take care of him, please grant us permission." Then, the venerable Maudgalyāyana thought: "This monk will realize Arhatship in that very house, and the parents and family members will also be established in the truths." Knowing this, the venerable Maudgalyāyana said: "You two do as you please." Immediately after hearing this, that householder took that monk to his house and, according to the doctor's instructions, took care of him with all the necessary equipment. That monk also stayed in that house, and becoming weary of the illness, through diligence, practice, and effort, he abandoned all defilements and realized Arhatship. After he attained Arhatship, he understood the thoughts, habits, dispositions, and nature of his parents and family members, and taught them the Dharma that suited them. After hearing this, that householder and his retinue, while sitting on that very seat, destroyed the twenty high peaks of the mountain of the view of the aggregates with the vajra of wisdom, and realized the fruit of stream-entry. He established his parents in the truths, and remembered his previous lives, thinking, "From where did I die and where was I born?" He died as a human and was reborn as a human, and saw that everything was plagued with illness and short life. He thought, "As an ordinary person, I have experienced such suffering. Now that I have finished what I had to do, why do I need such suffering? I should enter the realm of peace." Then he displayed miracles of burning, sitting brightly, raining, and lightning, and entered the realm of nirvana without remainder. After he completely passed into nirvana, the parents used that
