He also spoke harsh words to those who practiced, and also obstructed their gains. May I not experience the fruit of that action! Like this, although I practiced celibacy in the teachings of the perfectly complete Buddha Kashyapa, I did not gain any qualities. May the Buddha, the Bhagavan, who is the Brahmin boy prophesied by the perfectly complete Buddha Kashyapa, please me! May he not displease me! May I, having become ordained in that very teaching, abandon all defilements and realize the state of an Arhat! Monks, what do you think? The one who became a monk at that time is this hunchback! Because of the ripening of the action of speaking harsh words to those who practiced celibacy there, and obstructing their gains, he was born as a hungry ghost for five hundred lifetimes. After that, having died and transmigrated, also because of the ripening of that very action, wherever he was born, he died of starvation. Even now, until he attained the state of an Arhat, he was hungry because of the ripening of that very action, and finally completely passed into Nirvana. He made a prayer there, saying: May the Buddha, the Bhagavan, who is the Brahmin boy prophesied by the perfectly complete Buddha Kashyapa, please me! May he not displease me! May I, having become ordained in that very teaching, abandon all defilements and realize the state of an Arhat! Monks, because he did that, I have attained the same as the perfectly complete Buddha Kashyapa, the same power, the same deeds, and the same skillful means. Therefore, he pleased me and did not displease me, and having become ordained in my own teaching, he abandoned all defilements and realized the state of an Arhat. The so-called "worm" is like this: The Teacher was staying in Shravasti. At that time, in a muddy place outside Shravasti, a worm appeared with a head like the head of a monk. Its entire body was filled with worms like the tip of a needle. Like cow hair, those worms came out of its body. Those...

Therefore, (those beings) could not bear the sickness of hunger, and ran around in that mud of excrement, unable to bear the hunger, they ate the excrement. They could not bear the sickness, and fought each other, stirring up everything in that mud of excrement. The Buddha, the Bhagavan, is the teacher of the one and only path, possessing mastery over the two kinds of knowledge and wisdom, skilled in the three unmixed close placements of mindfulness, fearless with the four fearlessnesses, liberated from going to the five destinies, skilled in the six sense sources, the realm of practice for the seven branches of enlightenment, meditating on the eight liberations, entering into the nine gradual abidings of meditative absorption, possessing the power of the ten powers, proclaiming the true lion's roar, by their very nature, three times during the day and three times during the night, thus six times during the day and night, with the Buddha's eye, they look upon the world: Who is declining, who is prospering, who is impoverished, who is miserable, who is afflicted with harm, who is impoverished, miserable, and afflicted with harm, who is inclined towards the lower realms, who is falling into the lower realms, who has fallen into the lower realms, who shall I rescue from the lower realms and place in the higher realms, liberation, and fruition. Who is sinking in the mud of misconduct, I shall draw them out by the hand. Who does not have the seven noble riches, I shall make them possess the dominion of the seven noble riches. Who has not generated roots of virtue, I shall cause them to generate them. Who has already generated roots of virtue, I shall cause them to fully ripen. Who has already fully ripened roots of virtue, I shall pierce them with the weapon of wisdom. For whom shall I make the world adorned by the appearance of the Buddha, together with its fruits? Thus, the vision of wisdom arises. The ocean is the abode of aquatic creatures, the waves of time may pass away, but for the sons to be tamed, the Buddha's time never passes. Then the Bhagavan thought: The time for prophesying the dragons has come, and relying on that, I must guide a great multitude of those to be tamed. Then, in order to guide those great multitudes of beings, the Bhagavan blessed the smell of that mud of excrement in such a way that all places where the smell could be heard became filled. Then, there.
