It became like that. Then, the Venerable Shariputra, having done whatever he could with the power of his miraculous abilities, was unable to restore it to its original state. At that time, it became evening. After evening, it returned to its original state, just as before. Then, the Venerable Shariputra asked, "Venerable Hunchback, what unbearable suffering is within you?" He said, "Venerable Shariputra, I am tormented by thirst, please give me water, and I will drink." Then, the Venerable Shariputra filled his bowl with water and gave it to him. The Venerable Hunchback took the bowl, put it to his mouth, and was about to drink when people born from his karma appeared and poured ashes into the bowl. Then, seeing this, he thought, "I have done and accumulated these karmas, and I will surely experience them. These karmas are unavoidable, the conditions are complete, and they have been accumulated, so these karmas will not ripen and be experienced on the aggregates, elements, and sense bases of others." Thinking this, he drank the ash water. Right there, he displayed miracles of burning, blazing, raining, and lightning, and then completely passed into nirvana. Then, those who practiced the same as Brahma made offerings to his body, built a stupa for his relics, and made offerings with incense, powders, spices, and flowers. Then, the monks asked the Blessed One, "Venerable, what karma did the Venerable Hunchback commit that, due to the ripening of that karma, he was hungry, extremely poor, fasted for seven days, sought ash water, and then completely passed into nirvana?" The Blessed One said, "Monks, in other past lives, this person accumulated karmas that had found opportunity, were complete with conditions, came like a flood, and were unavoidable. Therefore, who else would experience the karmas that he himself did and accumulated? Monks, the karmas that have been done and accumulated will not ripen on the external earth element, nor will they ripen on the water element, fire element, or wind element. The virtuous and non-virtuous karmas that have been done and accumulated will

The aggregates, elements, and sense bases are solely matured by karma. The actions of sentient beings will not be lost even after hundreds of kalpas. When they are accumulated and the time is ripe, they will ripen into fruition. Monks, in the past, in a certain mountain village, there lived a wealthy householder who was rich, had much property, enjoyed great abundance, and possessed vast and extensive holdings. He possessed wealth comparable to that of Vaiśravaṇa (藏文:རྣམ་ཐོས་ཀྱི་བུ།), even rivaling it. When the time was right, he took a wife, and together they played, rejoiced, and indulged in pleasure. Later, his wife became pregnant, and after nine or ten months, she gave birth to a boy. They held a grand celebration for his birth and named him according to their lineage. They raised him with milk, yogurt, butter, ghee, and the essence of ghee. Then, when he grew up, he was taught writing, arithmetic, storytelling, calculation, addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, discerning clothes, discerning jewels, discerning precious stones, discerning incense, discerning medicine, discerning elephants, discerning horses, and discerning weapons. He became skilled in writing, proficient in reading, intelligent, clear in his actions, broad-minded, and adept in the eight kinds of discernment. That householder was fond of giving, and in his house, he gave alms and made offerings to monks, Brahmins, practitioners, wanderers, the poor, and the beggars, thus accumulating merit. Later, the householder died. After his death, the woman continued to manage the household and continued to give alms as before, without interruption. Later, the son said: Mother, do not destroy this house. I cannot maintain this house as my father did. He tried to stop her many times, but it was to no avail. Later, the young man thought: No matter what I do, it is useless, I will just kill her. Then, he locked his mother in a room, closed the door, and cut off her food and drink. Then she said: Son, let me out, and I will not give alms to anyone anymore, nor will I stay in this house anymore. The young man said: I
