He was nourished with milk, and then one day, the previous karma of that being ripened, and the mother's milk dried up. After that, his mother nourished him with cow's milk and buffalo milk, but that was not successful either. For a dying sentient being, death in the bardo has no place or opportunity. His cow's milk and buffalo milk were sometimes available and sometimes not, so he was barely nourished. When he grew up, his father said to him: "Son, we can only live by begging. We have no land to cultivate and no business to do, so go begging and live on the food you get from begging." So he said, "Yes, sir," and the boy began to beg. He begged for a long time, but could only find a little food to sustain his life. Then one day, the boy developed faith in the teachings of the Blessed One, so he went to a monk and said, "Venerable, if I could be ordained and fully ordained in the teachings of the Blessed One, and obtain the status of a monk, I would also like to practice brahmacharya in the presence of the Blessed One." The monk said, "Are your parents still alive?" He said, "Yes." The monk said, "Have you informed your parents?" He said, "No." The monk said, "Son, the Buddhas and the Shravakas of the Buddhas do not ordain anyone without the permission of their parents. Go and inform your parents, and then come back, and then your matter will be easy." So the little hunchback listened to the words of that monk and went to his parents and said, "Father and mother, please allow me to be ordained in the teachings of the Blessed One." Then the two parents thought, "Now this child is also very miserable, and we two are also miserable. It would be good if he could be a little happier, even if he is ordained. Perhaps he can attain happiness in this life and the next." So they said, "Son, we allow you to be ordained, and if you attain some accomplishment, tell us too." So, after saying "Yes, sir," the little hunchback received permission from his parents and went to King Bimbisara's grove, and went to that monk.

said: "Venerable, I have informed my parents, and my parents have agreed. Venerable, if I can be ordained and fully ordained in the Dharma and Vinaya well-spoken by you, and obtain the status of a bhikṣu, I also wish to practice brahmacharya in the presence of the Blessed One." Those great beings were engaged in benefiting others, and that bhikṣu had him ordained and fully ordained. Then, he sustained him with food for two or three days and said: "Son, like a wild animal that is not tamed, go to the alms round, which is your own realm designated by your father." Then, he listened to the words of the preceptor, and sometimes went for alms, and sometimes ate food in the sangha. If he ate food in the sangha, when food was distributed to him, due to the ripening of his previous karma, whatever food was distributed, when the food came to him, the food and drink would be exhausted, or sudden accidents would occur. Even if they came back, they would take it from him and distribute it to those below. Even if he sat there, some would get it and some would not. Then, the bhikṣus noticed and reported it to the Blessed One. The Blessed One said: "Bhikṣus, a rule should be established regarding the bhikṣu sitting below. The bhikṣu sitting below should not take food and drink until the bhikṣu sitting above has taken it. Or, if he has taken it by some means, he should not give up trying until he gets it. If he cannot be made to accept the offering, he should give half of his food to him, and eat half himself. If he does so, it is good, otherwise it will be with fault. If he goes for alms, he will be able to obtain food in the alms round." Then, one day, the venerable Little Hunchback, after sweeping the Blessed One's incense chamber, obtained excellent food and drink on that day. Similarly, even if he swept the Blessed One's incense chamber for two or three days, he would also on that day

Having obtained good food and clothing, his body became strong, capable of work and able to practice. Through diligence, practice, and effort, he abandoned all afflictions and personally realized the state of an Arhat. He became an Arhat, free from desire for the three realms, regarding gold and dung as equal, possessing a mind as open as the sky and the palm of his hand, cooled like sandalwood soaked in water, destroying the shell of ignorance with wisdom, and obtaining wisdom, supernormal powers, and individual self-realization. He turned his back on worldly gains, attachments, and reverence, and became an object of worship, awe, and respect for the gods (including those with power and attendants). Although he had attained the state of an Arhat, due to the manifestation of his previous karma, one day, another monk swept the Blessed One's clean room. Then, he took the broom and went, thinking, "I will sweep the Blessed One's clean room." But he saw that another monk was already sweeping, and he thought, "If so, I might go hungry today." So he put on his skirt and robes in the morning, took his bowl, and went to Shravasti for alms. But he found nothing, and that day he had to go hungry. The next day, another monk swept the Blessed One's clean room again. Then, the venerable Hunchback took the broom and went, thinking, "I will sweep the Blessed One's clean room." But he saw that another monk was already sweeping, and he thought, "I might go hungry twice today." So he returned to his dwelling. Then, while he was staying there, he heard that a householder had invited the Blessed One and the Sangha of monks to his house for a meal. He thought, "Why should I go begging now? I might as well go to the house where the Buddha and the Sangha of monks are being offered food and eat something." So he entered his dwelling, sat in the lotus position, and devoted himself to meditation. Then, that householder had a very important matter to attend to, so he earlier
