Let it be so! There is no power to say, 'Let it not be so.' Monks, what do you think? Is form permanent or impermanent? Venerable sir, it is impermanent. Whatever is impermanent, is it suffering or not suffering? Venerable sir, it is suffering. Regarding whatever is impermanent, suffering, and subject to change, do the noble disciples who have heard the teachings regard it as 'This is mine,' 'This I am,' 'This is my self,' and cling to it as self? Venerable sir, they do not cling to it. Monks, what do you think? Is feeling, perception, volitional formations, and consciousness permanent or impermanent? Venerable sir, it is impermanent. Whatever is impermanent, is it suffering or not suffering? Venerable sir, it is suffering. Regarding whatever is impermanent, suffering, and subject to change, do the noble disciples who have heard the teachings regard it as 'This is mine,' 'This I am,' 'This is my self,' and cling to it as self? Venerable sir, they do not cling to it. Therefore, monks, whatever form there may be, whether past, future, or present, internal or external, gross or subtle, inferior or superior, far or near, all form should be seen as it really is with right wisdom: 'This is not mine, this I am not, this is not my self.' Monks, whatever feeling, perception, volitional formations, and consciousness there may be, whether past, future, or present, internal or external, gross or subtle, inferior or superior, far or near, all feeling, perception, volitional formations, and consciousness should be seen as it really is with right wisdom: 'This is not mine, this I am not, this is not my self.' Therefore, monks, the noble disciple who has heard the teachings sees these five aggregates subject to clinging as they really are: 'This is not me, this is not mine.' Seeing it thus as it really is, he is not attached to anything in the world.

They do not take. Because they do not take, there is no complete explanation. Because there is no complete explanation, my birth is exhausted. The pure conduct has been practiced. The task has been done. Thinking that there is nothing other than this existence, they themselves completely pass into nirvana. When this Dharma discourse was spoken, the five mendicants and others, without taking, their minds were completely liberated from the outflows. At that time, five Arhats appeared in the world, six with the Blessed One. Then the mendicants asked the Blessed One: "Venerable Blessed One, you have delivered the five mendicants from the ocean of samsara, and bestowed upon them shares of the precious faculties, powers, and limbs of enlightenment, and you have placed them in the ultimate accomplishment and blissful nirvana." The Blessed One replied: "Mendicants, it is not only now, but also in the past, I risked my life for these five mendicants, and delivered them from the great ocean of water. Listen to how I gave them shares of valuable jewels. Mendicants, in the past, in the city of Varanasi, there was a king named Brahmadatta who ruled. During his reign, the kingdom was prosperous and flourishing, with happiness and good harvests, filled with people and many people, with peace from strife and fighting, with the cessation of conflicts, internal strife, thieves, diseases, and famine, and with rice, sugarcane, cattle, and buffaloes. There was no harm, and like a single beloved son, he ruled the kingdom according to the Dharma. At that time, in Varanasi, there was a captain named Dhana, who was rich, with much wealth and great enjoyment, possessing the wealth of Vaishravana, and competing with the wealth of Vaishravana. He took a wife because of circumstances, and together with her, he played and rejoiced, enjoying happiness and joy. Then, later, his wife became pregnant, and after nine or ten months, she gave birth to a boy who was handsome, pleasing to look at, beautiful, with a good complexion, golden in color, with a head like an umbrella, long arms, a broad forehead, a high nose, and a fine nose.
