To Kauṇḍinya, the eye of the Dharma, free from dust and stainless, was born regarding all phenomena. Then, the Blessed One said to the venerable Kauṇḍinya: Kauṇḍinya, have you understood all the Dharmas? Blessed One, I have understood all. Kauṇḍinya, have you understood all the Dharmas? Understood? Well-gone One, I have understood all. I have understood all. Then, since the venerable Kauṇḍinya had understood all the Dharmas, therefore, the name of the venerable Kauṇḍinya became All-Knowing Kauṇḍinya. When this Dharma category was being spoken, the yakshas dwelling on the earth uttered sounds and noises, saying: Friends, the Blessed One in Varanasi, in the Deer Park where the hermits speak, for the benefit of many beings, for the happiness of many beings, with compassion for the world, for the sake of the benefit, welfare, and happiness of gods and humans, has turned the Dharma wheel of three rounds and twelve aspects in accordance with the Dharma, which has not been turned in the world by any ascetic or Brahmin or god or demon or Brahma or anyone else in accordance with the Dharma. The abodes of the gods will manifestly increase, and the abodes of the non-gods will completely diminish. Having heard the sound of the yakshas dwelling on the earth, the yakshas dwelling in the sky and the gods of the retinue of the Four Great Kings and the Thirty-three and the Strife-free and the Joyful and the Delighting in Emanation and the Controlling Others' Emanations also uttered sounds and noises, saying: In that instant, in that moment, in that instant, in that instant moment, the sound resounded in the Brahma world. The gods of the Brahma retinue also uttered sounds and noises, saying: Friends, the Blessed One in Varanasi, in the Deer Park where the hermits speak, for the benefit of many beings, for the happiness of many beings, with compassion for the world, for the sake of the benefit, welfare, and happiness of gods and humans, has turned the Dharma wheel of three rounds and twelve aspects in accordance with the Dharma, which has not been turned in the world by any ascetic or Brahmin or god or demon or Brahma or anyone else in accordance with the Dharma.

They will clearly increase. The abodes of the Asuras will completely decline, so they say. The Blessed One, in Varanasi, in the Deer Park at Ṛṣipatana, turned the Wheel of Dharma, which is in accordance with the Dharma, in three rounds and twelve aspects. Therefore, the name of this Dharma category became "Turning the Wheel of Dharma." Then, there again, twice, the Blessed One spoke to the group of five monks: Monks, these four are the Noble Truths, namely, the Noble Truth of Suffering, the Noble Truth of the Origin of Suffering, the Noble Truth of the Cessation of Suffering, and the Noble Truth of the Path that leads to the Cessation of Suffering. What is the Noble Truth of Suffering? The suffering of birth, the suffering of aging, the suffering of sickness, the suffering of death, the suffering of separation from what is loved, the suffering of encountering what is not loved, and the suffering of not obtaining what one desires; in short, the five aggregates of grasping are suffering; this is called the Noble Truth of Suffering. In order to fully understand it, the Noble Eightfold Path should be practiced, namely, Right View, Right Thought, Right Speech, Right Action, Right Livelihood, Right Effort, Right Mindfulness, and the eighth branch, namely, Right Concentration. What is the Noble Truth of the Origin of Suffering? It is the craving that leads to rebirth, accompanied by delight and attachment, and greatly enjoyed in various places; this is called the Noble Truth of the Origin of Suffering. In order to abandon it, the Noble Eightfold Path should be practiced, namely, Right View, Right Thought, Right Speech, Right Action, Right Livelihood, Right Effort, Right Mindfulness, and the eighth branch, namely, Right Concentration. What is the Noble Truth of the Cessation of Suffering? It is the craving that leads to rebirth, accompanied by delight and attachment, and greatly enjoyed in various places; that very craving is completely abandoned, relinquished, eliminated, extinguished, separated, stopped, and pacified.

and cessation. This is called the Noble Truth of the Cessation of Suffering. In order to realize it, the Noble Eightfold Path should be cultivated, namely right view, right thought, right speech, right action, right livelihood, right effort, right mindfulness, and eighthly, right concentration. What is the Noble Truth of the Path that leads to the Cessation of Suffering? It is the Noble Eightfold Path, namely right view, right thought, right speech, right action, right livelihood, right effort, right mindfulness, and eighthly, right concentration, which should also be cultivated. When this discourse was being delivered, the venerable Ajnata-Kaundinya, without grasping, his mind was completely liberated from the defilements. And to the other group of five monks, the Dharma eye, stainless and immaculate, arose regarding the dharmas. At that time, there appeared one Arhat in the world, the Blessed One being the second. There, the Blessed One addressed the group of five monks: Monks, form is not self. Monks, if form were self, form should not be subject to harm and suffering, and there would also be control over form, saying, 'Let my form be like this, let it not be like that.' Monks, because form is not self, therefore form is subject to harm and suffering, and there is no control over form, saying, 'Let my form be like this, let it not be like that.' Monks, feeling, perception, mental formations, and consciousness are also not self. Monks, if consciousness were self, consciousness should not be subject to harm and suffering, and there would also be control over consciousness, saying, 'Let my consciousness be like this, let it not be like that.' Monks, because consciousness is not self, therefore consciousness is subject to harm and suffering, and there is no control over consciousness, saying, 'Let my consciousness be like this
