Moreover, having attained the state of being completely equal to the perfectly enlightened Buddha Light Protector, equal in power, equal in deeds, and equal in skillful means. This one has pleased me, has not displeased me, and has become ordained in my own teachings, having abandoned all defilements, and having directly realized the state of an Arhat. This is the karma he created in the past. What karma did he do in the present? He was born as a dog, and with joy in his heart towards Shariputra, he was born as a human. This is the karma he created in the present. The story called "Small Eyes" is as follows: The Buddha was residing in Jeta's Grove in Shravasti. At that time, in Shravasti, there lived a wealthy householder, rich in possessions, with great enjoyment, possessing vast holdings, endowed with the wealth of Vaishravana, and rivaling the wealth of Vaishravana. He took a wife as a suitable partner, and together they played, rejoiced, and enjoyed themselves. Later, his wife became pregnant. After nine or ten months, she gave birth to a handsome, pleasing, and beautiful boy. They held a grand birth celebration for the child and named him according to family tradition. They raised him with milk, yogurt, butter, ghee, and the essence of ghee. When he was able to walk, his father kept a puppy in the house and gave it to the boy so that he could play with it. Then the boy taught the puppy to eat. Later, when the puppy grew up, it went out onto the main road and started biting many people. The Buddha, the Bhagavan, is the guide of the one and only path, mastering the two kinds of knowledge and wisdom, skilled in the three unmixed mindfulnesses, fearless with the four fearlessnesses, liberated from the five realms of existence, skilled in the six sense bases, with the seven branches of enlightenment as his field of activity, a meditator of the eight liberations, an enterer into the nine successive abidings, possessing the ten powers, and roaring the great and true lion's roar. According to the Dharma, three times during the day and three times during the night, that is, six times day and night, with the Buddha's eye he looks upon the world, who declines, who prospers, who is impoverished.

Who has become miserable? Who is endowed with harm? Who is poor, miserable, and endowed with harm? Who inclines towards evil destinies? Who falls into evil destinies? Who has fallen into evil destinies? Who is it that I shall rescue from evil destinies and place in the heavens, liberation, and fruition? Who is it that I shall pull by the hand from sinking in the mire of misconduct? Who is it that I shall enthrone as the lord of the seven noble riches, having been without the seven noble riches? Who is it that I shall cause to generate roots of virtue, having not generated them? Who is it that I shall cause to fully ripen, having already generated roots of virtue? Who is it that I shall pierce with the weapon of wisdom, having fully ripened the roots of virtue? For whom shall I make the world adorned by the appearance of the Buddhas, together with its fruits? Thus, the vision of wisdom arises. The ocean is the abode of aquatic creatures, the waves of time may recede, but for the sons to be tamed, the time of the Buddhas never passes. Just as the Buddhas, the Bhagavat, look upon the world with the eye of a Buddha in three parts of the day and three parts of the night, that is, six times day and night, so too do the great Shravakas look upon the world with the eye of a Shravaka in three parts of the day and three parts of the night, that is, six times day and night. When the venerable Shariputra looked upon the world with the eye of a Shravaka, he saw that the householder and his retinue had come to the time of being tamed, and in the early morning he put on his lower garment and Dharma robes, took his bowl, and went to Shravasti for alms. As he gradually went for alms, he came to the house of that householder, and that dog saw the venerable Shariputra. Having seen him, it ran with great force and seized the venerable Shariputra. It tore his Dharma robes. The householder also saw it and stopped it, washed the wound, wrapped it with cloth, paid homage to his feet, and said: Venerable Shariputra, would you please accept food here? The venerable Shariputra did not speak to the householder, thus giving his consent. Then, the householder, knowing that the venerable Shariputra had given his consent by not speaking, spread out a seat and said: Venerable Shariputra, please be seated.
