Taking large clubs, vajra stakes, and flat-headed spears, they thrust them into its body. Those things cut and chop its entire body. Because of this, it experiences intense suffering, unbearable suffering, heat, and unpleasant feelings, uttering miserable cries and wails. Then, the sound of its cries filled all the places where it could be heard. Many people who could hear heard such a terrible sound. Having heard it, thousands of beings emerged from the places where it could be heard, gathering by the river called Kangdangaala. Those many people saw from afar that being experiencing such harm and suffering. Having seen it, they thought: Who is this being experiencing such harm and suffering? The Blessed One Buddha, dwelling and living, according to the Dharma, often wanders in temples, cemeteries, mountains, and rivers. For this purpose, the Blessed One wished to wander in the river. Then, he said to the venerable Ananda: Ananda, go and tell the monks that the Tathagata is going to wander in the river. Whoever wants to wander with the Tathagata should prepare their Dharma robes. Having said this, the Blessed One, attended by the assembly of monks and led by the Sangha of monks, went to the river called Kangdangaala. Then, many people saw the Blessed One from afar. Having seen him, those without faith said: The Shramana Gautama does not like to watch plays. If he hears there is a play, he will be attracted by it and come. But those with faith said: The Blessed One will surely rely on this being to proclaim a wonderful and rare Dharma. Then, they prepared a seat for the Blessed One, saying: Blessed One, please come here. Blessed One, it is good that you have come, it is good that you have come. Blessed One, please be seated on the prepared seat.

Then, the Blessed One sat on the prepared seat, and the Blessed One thought: How can I make this sentient being remember its past lives, speak in human language, and converse with me? I should enter into such a samadhi. Then, in order for that sentient being to remember its past lives, speak in human language, and converse with the Blessed One, the Blessed One entered into such a samadhi. There, the Blessed One said to that sentient being: Fair-faced one, are you mute? Blessed One, I am mute. Fair-faced one, are you mute? Sugata, I am mute. Have you experienced the results of the misdeeds of body, speech, and mind? Blessed One, I have experienced them. Are the results of the misdeeds of body, speech, and mind unpleasant? Sugata, they are unpleasant. Who is your unwholesome friend? He replied: It is one's own mind. Then, those ordinary people thought: Such a sentient being, who can remember past lives, speak in human language, and converse with the Blessed One, who is it? The Buddhas, the Blessed Ones, are difficult to approach, and they were unable to report to the Blessed One, so they asked the venerable Ananda: Venerable Ananda, such a sentient being, who can remember past lives, speak in human language, and converse with the Blessed One, who is it? The venerable Ananda said: Report to the Blessed One. They said: The Buddhas, the Blessed Ones, are difficult to approach, and their majesty is difficult to endure, so we cannot report to the Buddhas, the Blessed Ones. The venerable Ananda said: The Buddhas, the Blessed Ones, are difficult for me to approach as well, but out of compassion for you, I will report. Having said this, the venerable Ananda draped his upper robe over one shoulder, and with his palms joined together, bowed towards the direction where the Blessed One was, and reported to the Blessed One, saying: Venerable one, such a

Who is this being who remembers past lives, speaks in human language, and petitions the Blessed One? Then the Blessed One said to the venerable Ananda: Ananda, this being is one who commits sinful deeds; it has committed many sinful deeds. Ananda, in the distant past, there appeared in the world a Tathagata, Arhat, Samyaksambuddha, the Blessed One, who had transcended the levels of Hearers and Solitary Buddhas, a perfectly and completely enlightened Buddha, endowed with knowledge and conduct, a Sugata, a Knower of the World, a Guide for those who need to be tamed, unsurpassed, a Teacher of gods and humans, the Buddha Blessed One named Radiant Light. At that time, an Arhat, together with five hundred Arhats, was traveling and went to a royal palace. They went to the garden of that king, and like elders, they spread grass under each tree, and then sat in the lotus position, experiencing the bliss of meditation, liberation, samadhi, and absorption. Then, at that time, in that very royal palace, a king named Strong King was reigning. That king would rise early in the morning and, attended by a retinue of women, would go to that garden. Having gone there, he sat to one side, and those women, craving flowers and fruits, wandered and roamed about, and those women saw those five hundred monks sitting in the lotus position under the trees like dragon kings, as if asleep. Having seen them, they were exceedingly delighted. Having become delighted, they prostrated at their feet, and sat before the eldest of them in order to listen to the Dharma. Then that king heard a sound arising from within that garden. Having heard it, he took a sharp sword in his hand and went to where those monks were. That king saw those five hundred monks from afar. Having seen them, he thought: 'Surely the monks have not seen my retinue of consorts.'
