Also, he went forth into the teaching of the Fully Awakened Buddha Light Protector. The Non-Returner said: Abandon the household estate, let us both go forth. He said: Let it be done thus. Then, having abandoned the household estate, both of them went forth into the teaching of the Fully Awakened Buddha Light Protector. The Non-Returner, having gone forth, abandoned all defilements and directly realized the state of an Arhat. The other one, having gone forth, practiced celibacy for one lifetime and made a prayer at the time of death: May I not become the recipient of the karmic results of having spoken harsh words to such a pure sentient being. Even if the fruit of that action were to ripen upon me a hundredfold, may all my negativity be eliminated and may goodness arise immediately upon generating the mind of renunciation. Although I have gone forth and practiced celibacy for one lifetime, and have not attained any qualities, may I please the Buddha, the Blessed One, who is the Brahmin boy predicted by the Fully Awakened Buddha Light Protector. May I not displease him. May I go forth only in his teaching, abandon all defilements, and directly realize the state of an Arhat. Monks, what do you think? The monk who went forth in the teachings of the Fully Awakened Buddha Light Protector at that time is this beggar. Because of the action of speaking harsh words to his brother there, he became a beggar in every life in which he was born. He became remorseful, and after going forth, practiced celibacy for one lifetime and made a prayer at the time of death: May I not become the recipient of the karmic results of having spoken harsh words to such a pure sentient being. Even if the fully ripened result of that action were to ripen upon me a hundredfold, may all my negativity be eliminated and may goodness arise immediately upon generating the mind of renunciation. Because he made such a prayer, now, immediately upon generating the mind of renunciation, all the limbs of his body became complete. He made a prayer there, the Fully Awakened One.

of, the Buddha Light Protector had prophesied to the Brahmin boy. May that prophesied Buddha, the Bhagavan, please me! May he not displease me! May I renounce in the teachings of that very Buddha, abandon all defilements, and realize the state of Arhat! After saying this, monks, I became completely the same as the perfectly enlightened Buddha Light Protector, with the same power, the same deeds, and the same methods. He pleased me and did not displease me, and I renounced in the teachings of that very Buddha, abandoned all defilements, and realized the state of Arhat. Then, the monks asked the Bhagavan: Venerable one, behold, these five hundred wild men, having met this dung-thrower, have renounced, abandoned all defilements, and realized the state of Arhat. The Bhagavan said: Monks, not only now, but also in the past, these five hundred wild men, having met this very dung-thrower, renounced and developed the four dhyanas and five superknowledges. Listen to this. Monks, in the past, there were about five hundred wild men living in a certain forest. They destroyed a mountain village and took much wealth and food from there. This man also lived in that very forest, and when those wild men entered there, they seized him because he did not worship the yaksha. They entered that forest, smeared the yaksha's face with cow dung, placed a full pot and this man in front of him, and, holding sharp swords, sat in front of the yaksha to perform a sacrifice. That man thought, 'Are they going to kill me and use me as a sacrifice to the yaksha?' He became very frightened and terrified. Being frightened and terrified, he thought: 'To whom should I go for refuge? Who will generously spare my life?' At that time, not far from that mountain village, in a hermitage, lived a sage. At that time, that man remembered that sage, and with a faithful heart, he prayed to that sage: O
