They said, "We will offer sacrifice to the yaksha in this very place." Having said that, they made a mandala with cow dung in front of that yaksha, and placed incense, flowers, sacrificial rites, and full vases. Holding sharp swords, they placed that person in front of the yaksha and offered him as a sacrifice. Then, that person also understood that he would eventually be offered as a sacrifice to that yaksha. He was extremely frightened and thought, "Who else can I turn to for refuge now except for the Bhagavan? Who will grant me the gift of sparing my life?" So, he prayed to the Bhagavan from his heart: "Venerable Bhagavan, you see, know, and understand everything that has happened in the past, will happen in the future, and is happening in the present. Alas, Bhagavan! I am now impoverished, miserable, and destitute. Please save me completely and grant me the gift of sparing my life!" Thus he prayed. The Buddha Bhagavan, the guide of the one and only path, possessing mastery over the two kinds of knowledge and wisdom, skilled in the three unmixed mindfulness and the three close placements, fearless with the four fearlessnesses, completely liberated from going to the five realms of existence, skilled in the six sense bases, whose field of activity is the seven branches of enlightenment, meditating on the eight liberations, entering into the nine successive abidings, possessing the power of the ten powers, and truly roaring the great lion's roar. According to the Dharma, three times during the day and three times during the night, that is, six times day and night, he looks at the world with the Buddha's eye, seeing who is declining, who is prospering, who is impoverished and destitute, who is suffering, who is afflicted, who is impoverished, miserable, and afflicted, who is inclined towards the lower realms, who is falling into the lower realms, who has fallen into the lower realms. Who shall I rescue from the lower realms and place in the higher realms, liberation, and fruition? Who shall I pull out of the mire of evil deeds? Who shall I transform from lacking the seven noble riches into being a master of the seven noble riches? Who shall I cause to generate roots of virtue from not having generated them? Whose virtue

The roots of virtue, once generated, must be brought to full maturity. Those whose roots of virtue are fully matured must be pierced with the sword of wisdom. The wisdom vision should enter with the thought of making the world adorned by the appearance of the Buddha bear fruit. The ocean is the abode of aquatic creatures. Even the waves of time may subside. But for the sons to be tamed, the Buddha's time never passes. Then the Blessed One saw that the time had come to tame that bat and those five hundred wild men. From that very divine body, he remained in the guise of a god. Then the five hundred wild men thought: "The god has shown us his body!" Then, making a "pū ziṅ" sound, they sat with their palms joined and said: "Blessed One, what is your command?" The Blessed One said: "I do not need to be worshiped by men. Abandon this worship of men! If you desire the Dharma, then abandon the offerings and sit down, and I will teach the Dharma." Then, saying, "As you wish," those wild men abandoned the offerings and bowed their heads at the feet of the Blessed One, and sat before him to listen to the Dharma. Then the Blessed One, having understood the thoughts, predispositions, faculties, and nature of that bat and those wild men, taught them the Dharma that suited them. Therefore, those five hundred wild men, while sitting on that very seat, destroyed the twenty high peaks of the mountain of the view of the aggregates with the vajra of wisdom, and realized the fruit of stream-entry. That bat also realized the fruit of non-returning. Then, having seen the truth, the Blessed One made the divine guise disappear and remained in his natural body. Then, having seen the Blessed One, they were even more joyful. Having rejoiced, they rose from their seats, draped their upper garments over one shoulder, and, bowing with their palms joined towards where the Blessed One was, said to the Blessed One: "Venerable one, if we can be ordained and fully ordained in the Dharma and Vinaya well-spoken by you, and obtain the state of a bhikṣu, then we also wish to become the Blessed One's...
