Having gone forth in that very teaching, having abandoned all defilements, may we realize the state of an Arhat. Monks, what do you think? The monk who went forth in the teaching of the perfectly enlightened Buddha Kashyapa at that time is none other than this Katyayana of the assembly. The two who became his parents at that time are none other than these two parents. Having given alms and performed meritorious deeds there, due to the ripening of the karma of that aspiration, wherever he was born, he was born into a wealthy, rich, and prosperous family, with a good appearance, pleasing to look at, and beautiful, and he also understood all the treatises, and he also defeated all the speakers. Monks, I have attained the same as the perfectly enlightened Buddha Kashyapa, the same power, the same deeds, and the same means, and he pleased me and did not displease me, and having gone forth in my own teaching, having abandoned all defilements, he realized the state of an Arhat. Once upon a time, there lived a householder. Later, one day, his wife became pregnant, and after nine or ten months, she gave birth to a boy. This boy was a cripple, unable to walk. They held a grand celebration for his birth and were deciding what to name him, saying, "What should we call this boy?" Since the boy was a cripple, they named him Cripple. After that, the cripple boy was raised and nurtured with milk, yogurt, butter, clarified butter, and the essence of butter. When he grew up, his father thought, "What kind of craft should I teach this boy so that he can work and earn a living by it?" Then he thought, "It would be good if he learned the craft of a tailor, so he could earn a living from it." So, he sent the boy to learn the craft of a tailor. Later, he became the best of masters in that craft. Later, during a festival, another householder borrowed clothes and jewelry from another's house for his wife. He brought them back, and his wife wore them and went to the festival. Later, because she was careless, one of her shoes was torn. She was afraid of being scolded by her husband and didn't tell anyone. She returned from the festival, and the householder went to another village. After he left, the woman brought the tailor to her house. To prevent anyone from seeing, she closed the door and had him mend the shoe. After the tailor was brought to the house, her husband came back to his own house, knocking and calling. Then, his wife recognized him from his voice and left the tailor in the house. Because she was very afraid that the torn shoe would be discovered, she hid the tailor, stuffing him into a chest, locking it, and leaving it there. Then, she opened the door, and after her husband came inside, she spoke sweetly and treated him as well as she could, and then slept with him. While they were sleeping, some thieves came in through a hole in the wall and immediately seized the chest. They thought, "This chest is so well locked and so heavy, it must contain precious jewels."
