Abiding in (meditative) equipoise. Those who roar the great lion's roar of truth, endowed with the power of the ten strengths, by the nature of reality, three times during the day and three times during the night, that is, six times during the day and night, with the Buddha's eye, they look upon the world, who is declining, who is prospering, who is living in poverty. Who has become miserable, who is endowed with harm, who is poor, miserable, and endowed with harm, who is inclined towards the lower realms, who has fallen into the lower realms, who has fallen into the lower realms. Who I will rescue from the lower realms and place in the heavens, liberation, and fruition. Who I will draw out by the hand from the mire of misconduct, who I will cause to possess the dominion of the seven noble riches from not possessing the seven noble riches, who I will cause to generate roots of virtue from not generating them, who I will cause to fully ripen from having already generated roots of virtue, who I will penetrate with the sword of wisdom from having fully ripened the roots of virtue. For whom shall I make the world adorned by the appearance of the Buddha, complete with fruit, thus enters the vision of wisdom. The ocean is the place of aquatic creatures, the tides may recede, but for the sons to be tamed, the Buddha does not miss the opportunity. Just as the Tathāgatas, the Bhagavat, three times during the day and three times during the night, that is, six times during the day and night, look upon the world with the Buddha's eye, so too, the great Śrāvakas, three times during the day and three times during the night, that is, six times during the day and night, observe the world with the eye of the Śrāvaka. The venerable Maudgalyāyana, with the eye of the Śrāvaka, looked upon the world and saw a sentient being in its last existence taking rebirth in the womb of the chief wife of that householder. Having seen this, he also thought: Who will tame that sentient being? Will it be tamed by the Buddha or will it be tamed by the Śrāvaka? He saw that he would tame it himself. Moreover, he was formerly a servant of that household, and in order to secure that householder, he went alone, without companion or servant, to the house of that householder, and that householder saw the venerable Maudgalyāyana alone, without companion or servant.

Saw him coming. Having seen him, he asked, "Venerable one, you have no companion and no attendant, and you go alone. Are there no attendants to serve the Venerable One?" The Venerable Maudgalyayana replied, "Where else can we find servants except from people like you? Only from you can we find them, and you are our servants." The householder said, "Venerable one, my wife is pregnant. If she gives birth to a boy, I will offer him to the Venerable One as an attendant." The Venerable Maudgalyayana said, "Those virtuous people are steadfast in their vows." Having said these words, the Venerable Maudgalyayana departed. That householder's wife, after being pregnant for nine or ten months, gave birth to a handsome, pleasing, and beautiful boy. From his entire body emanated the fragrance of blue lotus flowers, and the entire house was filled with the fragrance of blue lotus flowers. When this boy entered his mother's womb and at the time of his birth, rain of blue lotus flowers fell everywhere in the house. Then, they held a grand birth celebration for him and began to name the boy, saying that when this boy entered his mother's womb and at the time of his birth, rain of blue lotus flowers fell in the house. Therefore, this boy's name shall be Blue Lotus. After that, the boy Blue Lotus was raised with milk, yogurt, butter, ghee, and the essence of ghee, and he grew rapidly like a lotus in a lake. When he grew up, he was taught writing, arithmetic, storytelling, laughter, manual calculation, addition, subtraction, multiplication, clothing appraisal, gem appraisal, jewel appraisal, spice appraisal, medicine appraisal, elephant appraisal, horse appraisal, and weapon appraisal. He became proficient in writing, skilled in reading, intelligent, clear in his actions, broad-minded, and skilled in the eight types of appraisal. Then, one day, the Venerable Maudgalyayana saw that the boy had reached the age when he should be ordained, and he went to the householder's house and said to the householder, "Householder, even before this boy was born, you had promised to make him

gave. If his (referring to the householder) virtuous deeds are firm in vows, did he vow truthfully? The householder said: Holy one, indeed, I vowed truthfully. Having said this, he held the child with both hands and offered him to the venerable Aniruddha, saying: Child, before you were born, I had already offered you to the holy Aniruddha, please serve the holy one. The child said: This is very beneficial to me. Having said this, the child followed the venerable Aniruddha. The venerable Aniruddha also instructed the householder with the Dharma, made him understand correctly, made him rejoice, and made him happy, then he stood up from his seat and left. After that, the venerable Aniruddha took the child to the monastery, had him ordained, gave him the Bhikshu vows, and also taught him the scriptures. He also, through diligence, practice, and effort, abandoned all defilements and directly realized the state of an Arhat. That Arhat had already become free from the desires of the three realms, possessed a mind that was equal to gold and tiles, a mind that was like the sky and the palm of the hand, cool like sandalwood soaked in water, destroyed the shell of ignorance with wisdom, obtained wisdom, supernormal powers, and individual perfect knowledge, turned his back on the gains, attachments, and honors of existence, was worshiped and remembered by the gods including the Ishvara and Parameshvara, and became a place of respectful praise. He was great in miraculous power and mighty, and had attained to the levels of meditation, liberation, samadhi, and samapatti. He was quick to enter and arise from samapatti, and in the time it takes to sew a single stitch, he could enter and leave various different samadhis. Then one day, the venerable Snamapushpa (Sna ma'i me tog) thought: The Bhagavan has removed my various sufferings and discomforts, accomplished various comforts and pleasures, removed various sins and unwholesome dharmas, and accomplished various virtuous dharmas, how should I repay the kindness of the Bhagavan? Then he thought: The Buddhas appear in the world,
