听闻说，（佛陀）已被迎请至波罗奈斯。听闻之后，由于先前的不悦，（他）便在不远处停留观看，却不愿靠近。之后，圆满正等觉佛陀心想，伸出如象鼻般的手，抓住（他）的手并引导过来，说道：无忧，你为何不愿与我相遇？他回答说：先前您曾向我承诺，无论我去哪里，您都会带我一起去。然而，您独自前往苦行林，因为我先前对您有所不满，所以我才不来。圆满正等觉佛陀迦叶佛说道：我所说的是考虑到涅槃。即使你去了那里又有什么用呢？现在是履行承诺的时候了。无忧回答说：尊者，如果我能够皈依您所善说的律法，受具足戒，并获得比丘的身份，那么我也愿意在世尊面前修持梵行。之后，圆满正等觉迦叶佛以“比丘，来吧”这句话让他出家并受具足戒，并向他授记。他在接受授记后变得懒惰，住在那里。当圆满正等觉佛陀赞叹寂静处时，他领悟了（佛陀的）旨意，前往一处寂静的地方。当圆满正等觉佛陀迦叶佛完成所有佛陀的事业，进入最后的睡眠时，诸天神四处宣告：圆满正等觉佛陀迦叶佛将于今晚半夜进入无余涅槃界。之后，比丘无忧听到了天空中行走的天人们的声音。听到后，他感到非常痛苦，心想：世尊将要涅槃，而我却一无所得。于是他从那个地方开始极度悲伤，发出痛苦的哀号。

It was heard that (the Buddha) had been invited to Varanasi. Having heard this, due to his previous displeasure, he stayed not far away, watching, but unwilling to approach. Then, the Perfectly Complete Buddha thought, extended his hand like an elephant's trunk, grasped (his) hand and led him over, saying: "Ashoka, why do you not want to meet me?" He replied: "Previously you promised me that wherever I go, you would take me with you. However, you went alone to the ascetic forest, and because I was previously displeased with you, I did not come." The Perfectly Complete Buddha Kashyapa said: "What I said was with consideration of Nirvana. Even if you went there, what good would it do? Now is the time to fulfill the promise." Ashoka replied: "Venerable one, if I could be ordained into the well-spoken Dharma and Vinaya, receive full ordination, and obtain the status of a Bhikshu, then I would also like to practice the Brahmacharya in the presence of the Blessed One." Then, the Perfectly Complete Buddha Kashyapa ordained him with the words "Bhikshu, come!" and gave him full ordination, and also prophesied to him. After receiving the prophecy, he became lazy and stayed there. When the Perfectly Complete Buddha praised the solitary place, he understood (the Buddha's) intention and went to a solitary place. When the Perfectly Complete Buddha Kashyapa completed all the deeds of a Buddha and entered his final sleep, the gods proclaimed everywhere: "The Perfectly Complete Buddha Kashyapa will enter the realm of Nirvana without remainder of aggregates tonight at midnight." Then, the Bhikshu Ashoka heard the voices of the gods walking in the sky. Having heard this, he felt great suffering, thinking: "The Blessed One is about to enter Nirvana, and I have gained nothing." So he began to grieve greatly from that place, uttering cries of pain.

So he did. Then the god who liked him saw him and said: "Free from Sorrow, why are you so sad and uttering moans of suffering? If you see the Fully Awakened Perfect Buddha Light Protector, what is there to do?" Free from Sorrow said: "Whatever is to be done in the teaching of the Fully Awakened Perfect Buddha Light Protector, I will do all of that." Then, as soon as he heard that, the god took him and placed him before the Fully Awakened Perfect Buddha Light Protector. He went to where the Fully Awakened Perfect Buddha Light Protector was, and having gone, he bowed his head at his feet and sat to one side. Then the Fully Awakened Perfect Buddha Light Protector taught him the Dharma that suited him. Therefore, Free from Sorrow, while sitting on that seat, abandoned all afflictions and directly realized the state of an Arhat. Then, Free from Sorrow, having attained the state of an Arhat, thought to himself: "It is not my part to see the Teacher pass into complete Nirvana. I should pass into complete Nirvana first." Then, Free from Sorrow passed into complete Nirvana, and after that, the Fully Awakened Perfect Buddha Light Protector also passed into complete Nirvana. Then the god thought: "Whatever merit he has obtained, all of that is due to my power." Alas, by this root of virtue, may I please the Buddha, the Blessed One, who is the Brahmin boy predicted by the Fully Awakened Perfect Buddha Light Protector. May I not displease him. Having gone forth in his teaching alone, may I pass into complete Nirvana before him, and after that, may the Teacher pass into complete Nirvana." He made this aspiration. Monks, what do you think? The god at that time was none other than this Excellent Good One. He made an aspiration there, saying: "May I please the Buddha, the Blessed One, who is the Brahmin boy predicted by the Fully Awakened Perfect Buddha Light Protector. May I not displease him. Having gone forth in his teaching alone, having abandoned all afflictions.

Therefore, he will become an Arhat. Because he said: May I first completely pass into Nirvana, and then may the teacher pass into Nirvana after that. Monks, I have attained that I am very similar to the Fully Enlightened Buddha Light Protector, the same in power, the same in deeds, and the same in methods. He has pleased me and has not displeased me. He has renounced all defilements by ordaining in my own doctrine, and has realized Arhatship. Because he said: May I first completely pass into Nirvana, and then may the teacher pass into Nirvana after that. Therefore, he made such a prayer there, so he will first completely pass into Nirvana, and then I will pass into Nirvana after that. Monks, also, in the past, about five hundred hermits lived in a certain forest. A god also lived in that forest, and he was very fond of those hermits. At that time, the Fully Enlightened Buddha, endowed with knowledge and conduct, the Sugata, the Knower of the World, the unsurpassed tamer of beings, the teacher of gods and humans, the Buddha, the Bhagavan, named Destructive Aeon, appeared in the world. There, when the Fully Enlightened Buddha Destructive Aeon showed the great assembly, that god also gathered in that great assembly. Having heard the Dharma from the Fully Enlightened Buddha Destructive Aeon, he went to the forest. He praised the Fully Enlightened Buddha Destructive Aeon in front of those hermits. Then, as soon as they heard that, those hermits developed a mind of great desire to see the Fully Enlightened Buddha Destructive Aeon, and they begged in front of that god: Where is the Fully Enlightened Buddha Destructive Aeon? Go there. Those five hundred hermits saw from afar the body of the Fully Enlightened Buddha, well adorned and radiant with the thirty-two marks of a great being, like a body of fire, like a flame fed with butter, like a lamp placed in a golden vessel, like a stupa adorned with various jewels.
