It looked as if it had been poured out. The monks said: If this is your Brahma co-practitioner, then come here and make offerings. Then, as soon as those other heretics heard this, they wanted to go to Rab-bzang, but seeing that it was surrounded by a great river, they could not go. Then the monks said: This is not your Brahma co-practitioner, but ours. Like this, we can easily come here, you also come here by our power. Having said that, they all went to the ashes of Rab-bzang. Then the monks said: If this is your Brahma co-practitioner, then carry this bier. Then, as soon as those other wandering heretics heard this, they said to carry the bier, but they could not lift it. Then the monks said: This is our Brahma co-practitioner, let us carry this bier and make offerings. Having said that, the monks carried the bier and placed it where it was to be burned. Then the monks said: If this is your Brahma co-practitioner, then kindle the fire for burning the ashes. Then the other heretics said to kindle the fire for burning the ashes, but they could not kindle it. Then the monks said: This is our Brahma co-practitioner, let us kindle the fire for burning these ashes. Having said that, the monks kindled the fire for burning the ashes. After kindling the fire for burning the ashes, they said again: If this is your Brahma co-practitioner, then extinguish the fire for burning these ashes with milk. Then the other heretics said to extinguish the fire for burning these ashes, but they could not extinguish it. Then the monks said: This is our Brahma co-practitioner, let us extinguish the fire for burning these ashes. Having said that, the monks extinguished the fire for burning the ashes. After extinguishing the fire, they said again: If this is your Brahma co-practitioner, then put this

Take these bones and make offerings! Then the other heretical wanderers said, "Take the bones," but they did not see the bones. Then the monks took those bones, placed the bones inside the stupa, and paid homage with incense, flour, and flowers. Karmaśatā, Volume Twenty-five. Then the monks requested the Buddha, the Blessed One, "Venerable, the venerable Rabzang first went forth under all of these, and first entered into complete nirvana, and then the Blessed One will enter into complete nirvana." The Blessed One said, "It is due to the power of aspiration." They asked, "Venerable, where did this venerable one make the aspiration?" The Blessed One said, "Monks, in the past, in the past time, in this very auspicious kalpa, when the life of beings was able to last twenty thousand years, in the city of Varanasi (Varanasi, now Varanasi, India), there was a king named Krki who ruled. At that time, the son of King Krki's advisor was handsome, pleasing to behold, beautiful, with a good complexion, golden in color, with a head like an umbrella, long arms, a broad forehead, a high nose, a beautiful nose, thick eyebrows, and a body well adorned with the thirty-two marks of a great man, and beautified by the eighty excellent signs. After he was born, a grand feast was held to celebrate his birth, and they discussed, 'What should this child be named?' Because this child's lineage is Kasyapa, they said, 'Let this child be named Kasyapa itself.'" Then, the boy Kasyapa was raised and nurtured with milk, yogurt, butter, ghee, and the essence of butter. When he grew up, the fortune-tellers predicted, "If this boy Kasyapa does not go forth, he will become a universal monarch. If he shaves his hair and beard, wears dyed robes, and goes forth from home to homelessness with true faith, he will become a Tathagata, Arhat, perfectly enlightened Buddha, and will have great fame in the world." A friend of Light Protector, a Brahmin boy named Ashoka, having heard that prophecy of Light Protector, immediately said upon hearing it: "Friend, know that you should not go to the ascetic grove without going with me." Then, the Bodhisattva, considering Nirvana, said, "I will not go until I go with you." Then, when the Bodhisattva Light Protector saw the old, the sick, and the dead, and went into the forest, Ashoka became displeased, thinking, "He did not do as he had promised." Then, when the Bodhisattva Light Protector attained unsurpassed, perfect, complete enlightenment and became a Buddha, and went to Varanasi, he repeated it there three times, turned the twelve-aspect wheel of Dharma according to Dharma, and King Krki invited him for a meal. The king had the road decorated beautifully that very night. That very night, he also prepared many clean and excellent foods, laid out seats, and filled water pitchers. The king himself, urged by a messenger, held incense, flour, spices, flowers, umbrellas, banners, and flags, and proclaimed a great sound of cymbals, welcoming Light Protector, the perfectly enlightened Buddha from the hermitage, and invited him to Varanasi with great pomp.
