After sewing many clothes, they had people summon the monks and sent them to borrow. There, after the Fully Awakened Buddha Kashyapa had completely passed into nirvana for seven days, the teachings declined. After he had completely passed into nirvana, those monks who had obtained power also completely passed into nirvana. Those ordinary people became householders. Then, those borrowers could not find a single monk, and King Kriki said to them, "Where have those monks gone?" The ministers reported, "The Fully Awakened Buddha has completely passed into nirvana for seven days, and the teachings have declined." The king asked, "Is there not even one monk who will uphold his teachings?" King Kriki paid homage to that stupa and left. That minister's son also paid homage to that stupa and prayed, "May I, by this root of virtue, be born in a wealthy, rich, and prosperous family wherever I am born. May I please that Buddha, the Bhagavan, who is the Brahmin boy prophesied by the Fully Awakened Buddha Kashyapa. May I not displease him. May I ordain in his teachings alone, abandon all defilements, and realize the state of an Arhat. Furthermore, may I uphold his teachings after he has completely passed into nirvana." Monks, what do you think? The minister's son at that time was none other than this Kashyapa Buddha, and he made that aspiration there. The Hundred Deeds, the twenty-fourth chapter, called "The Son of Holding." The basis of the story is that he was residing in Rajagriha. At that time, in Rajagriha, there lived a great and noble Brahmin named Holding. In the village called "Bamboo Giving," there lived a Brahmin named Brahmin Victory. The two were friendly, friends, and relatives. Then, Brahmin Victory, together with his young wife, played and rejoiced, enjoying happiness. His wife became pregnant, and after nine or ten months, she gave birth to a boy who was handsome and pleasing to the eye.

A lovely and beautiful child was born, and a grand birth celebration was held for him, and he was named Shariputra and Nyergyal. Then, later, the wife of the Brahmin Holder also became pregnant, and after nine or ten months, a handsome, lovely, and beautiful boy was born. A grand birth celebration was held for him, and people began to name the child, saying, "This child is the son of the great and exalted Brahmin Holder, so this child should be named Holder's Son." Then, Holder's Son was raised and nurtured with milk, butter, yogurt, ghee, and the essence of ghee. When they both grew up, they were sent to a school for children to learn. They both became proficient in writing, and they learned all the treatises. Nyergyal also learned Sanskrit grammar at the age of sixteen and was able to defeat all opponents in debate. Then, he resided in a forest of asceticism and became ordained among those who wandered everywhere. There, when the Buddha appeared in the world, the Brahmin's son Shariputra and Maudgalyayana's son both joined the Blessed One's teachings. There, they both abandoned all defilements and realized the state of Arhat. The Blessed One praised one of them as the foremost of the wise and the other as the foremost of those with miraculous powers. The Brahmin boy, Holder's Son, became a close confidant and warrior of the king. Because he frequented the royal palace and possessed wisdom, King Bimbisara appointed him as the chief of ministers and bestowed upon him a great foundation of wealth. The people of the world desire wealth. Later, he also took a wife through appropriate means, and he played and rejoiced with her, enjoying happiness and joy, and he caused the family's wealth to increase. Then, in Rajagriha, he relied on the king and took wealth from the Brahmins and householders. Relying on the Brahmins and householders, he also took wealth from the king.

So it is. Then one day, the Venerable Śāriputra, seeing that the time had come to subdue Dhṛtaka's son, put on his robes and robes in the morning, took his bowl, and went to the house of the Brahmin Dhṛtaka's son. At that time, the Brahmin Dhṛtaka's son was washing his face under the leaves of the Mallika tree. The Brahmin Dhṛtaka's son saw the Venerable Śāriputra from afar. Having seen him, he went to the Venerable Śāriputra, and having arrived, he embraced the Venerable Śāriputra with all his limbs, led him into the house, and had him sit on the prepared seat, saying, 'Śāriputra, please eat and drink milk.' Śāriputra said, 'Dhṛtaka's son, you have already made me happy, that is enough.' Dhṛtaka's son said, 'Śāriputra, you have come to my house after a long time, why can't you even eat a single meal?' Śāriputra said, 'Dhṛtaka's son, you are so immoral and degenerate, relying on the king to take the wealth of Brahmins and householders, and relying on Brahmins and householders to take the wealth of the king.' Dhṛtaka's son said, 'Śāriputra, I am a householder, living in a house, so I must make myself, my parents, my children, my wife, my servants, my maids, my employees, those who live on shares, my friends, my close ones, my relatives, and my elders truly happy and content. For the king, one must also rely on the land, also worship the gods, also destroy the ancient altars, and also give alms to ascetics and Brahmins, for I cannot easily become wealthy by merely acting according to the Dharma.' Śāriputra said, 'Dhṛtaka's son, then I will ask you, answer as you see fit. For example, if someone, for the sake of his parents, engages in non-Dharma and acts wrongly, and by engaging in non-Dharma and acting wrongly, after separating from the body, after death, falls into bad destinies, bad migrations, and evil places of descent, and is born in the hells of sentient beings, then...'
