Fearing the arrival of the army in the future, that king saw a Pratyekabuddha meditating under a tree. Upon seeing him, he became delighted and thought, 'This person enjoys being in the uninhabited forest so much, he must be a great being.' According to the custom of the kings of the previous royal lineage, whenever they went to war or hunted wild animals, they would tie a small amount of food to the horse's rump. The king also had a small amount of food tied to his horse's rump, and he offered that food to the Pratyekabuddha. That Pratyekabuddha also carried the king into the sky above and placed him in a place free from fear. Then, that king made a prayer: 'By this root of virtue, may I be born as a peacock wherever I am born. May I please the teacher even more excellently than this, and may I not displease the teacher. May I also attain such qualities as these. May I be ordained in that very teaching, abandon all defilements, and realize the state of an Arhat.' Monks, what do you think? The king who was given by Brahma at that time was none other than that bird. Because he offered food to the Pratyekabuddha there and made a prayer, now this bird has pleased me and has not displeased me. The second bird: The basis of the story is that the Buddha was residing in Shravasti. At that time, in a place where the scent of incense mountain spread, there was a bird named Kumuda Festival, who was seriously ill and would soon die. The Blessed One Buddha is the guide of the solitary path, possessing mastery over the two kinds of knowledge and wisdom, skilled in the three unconfused mindfulnesses, fearless with the four fearlessnesses, liberated from going to the five realms, skilled in the six sense bases, whose field of activity is the seven branches of enlightenment, meditating on the eight liberations, entering into the nine successive abidings, possessing the ten powers, proclaiming the great roar of the true lion. They, by their nature, three times during the day and three times during the night.

In the six divisions of day and night, the Buddha observes the world with the Buddha's eye, who is declining? Who is prospering? Who is poor? Who is suffering? Who has harm? Who is poor, suffering, and harmed? Who is heading to the evil realms? Who is falling into the evil realms? Who has fallen into the evil realms? Who shall I rescue from the evil realms and place in the heavens, liberation, and fruition? Who shall I pull out from the mud of evil deeds and place on the right path? Who lacks the seven noble riches, and empower them with the power of the seven noble riches? Who has not generated roots of virtue, and cause them to arise? Who has already generated roots of virtue, and cause them to fully ripen? Who has fully ripened the roots of virtue, and pierce them with the sword of wisdom? Who shall be adorned with the world adorned by the appearance of the Buddha, and make it bear fruit? Thus enters the observation of wisdom. The ocean is the abode of aquatic creatures, and the waves of time may cease, but for the sons to be tamed, the Buddha's teachings never pass their time. Then, the Blessed One thought: The time for this bird's prophecy has come, and many beings to be tamed must be guided based on this. Having thought thus, the Blessed One disappeared from Kausambi and went to the fragrant sandalwood mountain, appearing not far from where the bird was dwelling. The Blessed One blessed it so that five hundred birds gathered and circled the Blessed One. Thereafter, the bird saw five hundred birds gathering and circling the Blessed One. Having seen this, it thought: I too shall circle the Blessed One. Thus, desire arose in it. Thereafter, that bird, with a joyful mind towards the Blessed One, died and was reborn as a god. That god went to the Blessed One, and the Blessed One taught him the Dharma, and he saw the truth, and having seen the truth, he returned to his own abode. Thereafter, the Blessed One, relying on the corpse of that bird, spoke to the venerable Shariputra in the assembly of monks: Shariputra, what deed did this bird do that this deed has ripened?

said that he had become a bird. As soon as Shariputra heard this, he entered into meditation. Even though he entered into the highest level of meditation, he could only see that he died from the flock of birds and was reborn as a bird. Then he rose from that samadhi, draped his upper garment over one shoulder, and bowed with his palms together towards where the Blessed One was, and said to the Blessed One: Venerable Blessed One, I have not found the root of this bird, I can only see that he died from the flock of birds and was reborn as a bird. Venerable Blessed One, you have unobstructed wisdom and infinite insight, please prophesy what karma this bird has done, and what karma's ripening has caused him to be born only as a bird. The Blessed One said: Monks, this bird has done and accumulated such karma. Monks, in the past, a perfectly enlightened Buddha who had transcended the level of Hearers and Solitary Buddhas, endowed with knowledge and conduct, Gone to Bliss, Knower of the World, Guide of beings to be tamed, Supreme, Teacher of gods and humans, the Buddha, the Blessed One, named Meaningful Sight, appeared in the world. In his teachings, this bird became ordained and became a monk in charge of food. He begged for food and drink from patrons and donors, relying on householders. Many monks stopped him, and he said angrily: You are like animals without thinking, not doing what monks should do! Later he felt regret and confessed that the karma was wrong. He lived in celibacy for one lifetime and made a prayer at the time of death: May the karma of speaking such harsh words to such pure beings not come upon me. May I be as pleasing as this teacher, and not displeasing. Monks, what do you think? At that time, the monk who was in charge of food was this bird.
