It would be much easier for you to have your hair cut than to receive ordination from him. It would be easier for you to sink into the mud of excrement than to take bathing utensils from him. It would be easier for you to eat and drink feces and urine than to take food and drink from him. Then, the Arhat thought, this defilement has become inferior and deteriorated, and it would be bad if it deteriorated completely, so measures must be taken. Then he said to him: Venerable one, do you know who I am and who you are? He said: I know, you are also a renunciate and I am also a renunciate. The Arhat said: Oh, children, although we are similar in renunciation, you are bound by all the bonds of ordinary people, but I am an Arhat, liberated from all bonds. You have spoken harsh words, confess your fault and repent. You will wander in samsara and suffer great suffering. As soon as he heard these words, that monk felt great remorse. After he felt remorse, he prostrated at the feet of the Arhat and asked for forgiveness. Then, he practiced celibacy for the rest of his life and made a prayer at the time of death: Alas, may the karma of speaking harsh words to that Arhat not come upon me. In the future, may I serve the Sangha according to the Dharma, and by the root of virtue of practicing celibacy for the rest of my life, may I be born in a wealthy, rich, and prosperous family wherever I am born. May I please the Buddha, the Blessed One, Light Protector, who was prophesied by the Brahmin boy teacher, and may I not displease him. May I renounce in that very teaching, abandon all defilements, and realize the state of Arhat. Monks, what do you think? The monk who was serving the Sangha at that time was this very Va, who spoke harsh words to the Arhat there: It is easier for you to have your hair cut than to receive ordination from him.

The result of doing such deeds is that wherever one is born, one's hair is shaved off. There, he/she said, "Instead of you taking bathing utensils for him, it would be better for you to sink into a mud of feces." The result of doing such deeds is that wherever one is born, one dwells in a mud of feces. There, he/she said to the Arhat, "Instead of you taking food and drink from him, it would be better for you to eat and drink feces and urine." The result of doing such deeds is that wherever one is born, the body emits the smell of feces and eats feces. There, he/she served according to the Dharma, practiced celibacy for a lifetime, and made aspirations at the time of death, saying, "Wherever I am born, may I be born into a lineage that is wealthy, has abundant riches, and enjoys great prosperity." The result of doing such deeds is that wherever one is born, one is born into a lineage that is wealthy, has abundant riches, and enjoys great prosperity. Monks, I have attained the same perfect enlightenment as the Buddha Kashyapa, the same power, the same deeds, and the same methods. He/she pleased me and did not displease me, and having renounced in my own teachings, abandoned all defilements, and directly realized the state of Arhat. Monks asked: Venerable one, what deeds did those five hundred pretas do, that by the result of those deeds they were born as pretas? What deeds did they do, that by the result of those deeds they were born as gods, and they also pleased the Blessed One and did not displease the Blessed One? The Blessed One said: Monks, they themselves did and accumulated such deeds. Monks, in the past, in this very fortunate kalpa, when the lifespan of beings was twenty thousand years, a Tathagata, Arhat, Perfectly Enlightened One, endowed with knowledge and conduct, Sugata, Knower of the World, Guide of Beings to be Tamed, Supreme, Teacher of Gods and Humans, Buddha, Blessed One, named Kashyapa appeared in the world. All of these were upasakas in his teachings, and to them

The monks went and repeatedly begged for clothes, food, bedding, mats, medicine, and medical supplies, and they were controlled by stinginess. They said harsh words to those monks, 'These Kashyapa Buddha's monks are like hungry ghosts, always relying on others.' Monks, what do you think? Those who became five hundred lay followers at that time were the same five hundred hungry ghosts. Because they spoke harsh words to the monks there, the ripening of that karma caused them to be born as hungry ghosts for five hundred lifetimes. They took refuge in the teachings of the perfectly enlightened Buddha Kashyapa, protected the foundations of training, and fully matured their faculties, and thus they were liberated. The fifth verse of the Hundred Deeds Sutra is complete. Sixth verse. The verse is: Two birds and body light, Teacher Kashyapa Ananda, Holding child and Good Excellent, Donor lineage and old enter two. Regarding the two birds, the first bird is: The story takes place while residing in Rajagriha. At that time, the Blessed One was residing in Rajagriha, on Vulture Peak Mountain. There, the Blessed One was surrounded by hundreds of thousands of attendants, and while teaching the Dharma, the fragrance of sandalwood arose. A peacock named 'Delightful to See' came and hovered in the sky above Prince Jeta's garden. That bird heard the Blessed One teaching the Dharma surrounded by hundreds of thousands of attendants. Having heard it, it landed on the ground and sat at the feet of the Blessed One. Then, the Blessed One taught it three phrases of Dharma: 'All conditioned phenomena are impermanent. All dharmas are without self. Nirvana is peace.' Make my mind happy, and you may be separated from the animal realm. Thus spoke the Blessed One. That bird became happy, gazed at the face of the Blessed One for a long time, and then left. As it was going in the sky above, it was killed by a hawk. It died and was reborn with a joyful mind towards the Blessed One. After death, in the same Rajagriha, a merchant
