Go and tell Śākya Arrow-Shaft (Śākya mda' thogs). Then, the Venerable Unobstructed (Ma 'gag pa) seeks the monk in this way. After making this request, he went with a monk who was following him to the house of Śākya Arrow-Shaft. Then, Śākya Arrow-Shaft heard that the monk Unobstructed had come to my house. After hearing this, because he loved his brother, he went to him, prostrated at his feet, and sat in front to listen to the Dharma. Then, the Venerable Unobstructed spoke words that would make him fully ripen, and then left. Then, later on the second day, the Blessed One sent Ananda (Kungawo). On the third day, he sent the Venerable Great Maudgalyāyana. On the fourth day, he sent the Venerable Śāriputra, and the Venerable Śāriputra, in order to make him generate faith in the Blessed One, taught the Dharma in such a way that he became fearful and afraid of death. Then, on the fifth day, the Blessed One knew his mind with his wisdom, and went to the house of Arrow-Shaft himself. Then, Śākya Arrow-Shaft saw the Blessed One from afar. After seeing him, he became very happy with the Blessed One. After becoming happy, he prepared a seat for the Blessed One and said to the Blessed One: Blessed One, please come, Blessed One, it is good that you have come, good. Blessed One, please sit on the prepared seat. Then, after the Blessed One sat on the prepared seat, Śākya Arrow-Shaft bowed his head at the feet of the Blessed One, and sat in front to listen to the Dharma. There, the Blessed One said to Śākya Arrow-Shaft: Arrow-Shaft, like this fear of death, is only a small thing among all fears. Just like this, the fear of the lower realms of sentient beings in hell, animals, and hungry ghosts is the most supreme among all fears. He replied: Venerable, what are the hells of sentient beings like? Then, in order to make him feel aversion, the Blessed One took him with miraculous power and showed him the eight great hot hells. He replied: Venerable, what kind of karma will cause me to be born here? The Blessed One said: Killing

If one always associates with and cultivates, and does it extensively, it will cause sentient beings to be born in the hells. If one dies and transmigrates from there, and is born here with the same fate as humans, one will also have a short life. Similarly, the Blessed One explained to him in detail the path of the ten non-virtuous actions. As soon as he heard this, he became even more frightened. He thought: If I have not guarded the precepts I received from the Blessed One, I will surely be born in the hells, as an animal, and as a hungry ghost. So, he confessed those precepts he had violated, and sat before the Buddha to listen to the Dharma. Then, the Blessed One taught him the Dharma that was appropriate to him. Therefore, Shakya Spear-Holder, while sitting on that very seat, destroyed the twenty high peaks of the mountain of the view of the aggregates with the vajra of wisdom, and directly realized the fruit of stream-entry. He saw the truth, died, and was reborn as a god. As soon as he was reborn as a god, he thought: From where did I transmigrate? He saw that he had transmigrated from the human realm. He thought: Where was I born? He saw that he was born as a god. He thought: What actions did I do? He saw that he had guarded the precepts at the time of death, and had also made the Blessed One happy. He thought: It is not right for me to go and see and serve the Blessed One only after a long time. So, wearing earrings and bracelets that jingled, his body adorned with necklaces and armlets, wearing a crown studded with various jewels, his body smeared with saffron, tamala leaves, and kara and other spices, that very night he filled containers with heavenly utpala flowers, lotuses, water lilies, white lotuses, and mandārava flowers, and went to where the Blessed One was, scattered the heavenly flowers, and sat before the Buddha to listen to the Dharma. Then, the Blessed One taught him the Dharma that was appropriate to him, and remained silent without saying a word. Then, he knew that the Blessed One's discourse had ended, praised and rejoiced in the Blessed One's teachings, circumambulated the Blessed One three times, and then disappeared there. When he died, the Shakyas
