Those five hundred monks who were ordained in the teachings of the Buddha Light Protector were these five hundred merchants. They were ordained there, practiced celibacy for one lifetime, and made a prayer at the time of death: By this root of virtue, may we please the Buddha, the Bhagavan, the perfectly complete Buddha Light Protector, who was prophesied by the Brahmin boy! May we not displease him! May we only be ordained in his teachings, abandon all defilements, and manifest the state of Arhat! Therefore, monks, I have attained the same state as the perfectly complete Buddha Light Protector, the same power, the same deeds, and the same skillful means. These people have pleased me and have not displeased me. They were ordained in my teachings, abandoned all defilements, and manifested the state of Arhat. In the story called "Two Ants," the first ant: The story takes place in Shravasti, where the Blessed One was residing. At that time, when the venerable Kaundinya realized the truths, eighty thousand gods also realized the truths. Then, the monks reported to the Blessed One: Venerable One, you have satisfied Kaundinya and the eighty thousand gods with the nectar of the sacred Dharma, and you are observing them abiding in eternal liberation and peaceful Nirvana. The Blessed One said: Not only now, but also in the past, I satisfied Kaundinya and the eighty thousand gods with my own flesh and blood, and gave up my life. Listen to this. Monks, in the past, on the bank of a river, there lived a turtle with great compassion and a loving nature, who was full of love for sentient beings. Sometimes it walked on land, and sometimes it walked in water. Then one day, it came out of the water and walked on land, and as it walked, it fell asleep on that land. Then, an ant came out of an anthill and came to the turtle. It saw the turtle sleeping on the land and went to that nest.

and then told the other ants. There were also eighty thousand ants in that ant nest, and when they heard from that ant, they came out of the ant nest and entered the body of that turtle. Then they started eating the turtle, and the turtle woke up and saw that its body was covered with ants. Bodhisattvas, even if their bodies fall, their minds will not fall. That Bodhisattva thought: Although I can enter the water, the lives of so many sentient beings will be lost. I am striving to benefit sentient beings, and it is worth sacrificing my own life. The lives of so many sentient beings cannot be lost in vain. So he endured silently, without saying a word. When those eighty thousand ants were eating him, he made a vow: Alas, may I, with this root of virtue, become a guide for the blind world without a guide, save the sentient beings who have not been saved, liberate the sentient beings who have not been liberated, make the sentient beings who have not breathed breathe, and make the sentient beings who have not completely liberated from suffering completely liberated from suffering, the Tathagata, Arhat, Samyak-sambuddha, endowed with knowledge and conduct, Sugata, Knower of the world, unsurpassed charioteer of beings to be tamed, unsurpassed teacher of gods and humans, Buddha, the Blessed One! Just as I now satisfy them with my own flesh and blood and give away my life, when I attain the unsurpassed perfect enlightenment, I will also satisfy them with the nectar of the true Dharma, and place them in the eternal ultimate accomplishment and the bliss of Nirvana. Monks, what do you think? The one who became a turtle at that time and abided in the conduct of a Bodhisattva was me. The ones who became eighty thousand ants at that time were these eighty thousand gods. At that time, I also satisfied them with my own flesh and blood and gave away my life. Now I also satisfy them with the nectar of the true Dharma, and place them in the eternal ultimate accomplishment and the bliss of Ni
