Were placed in nirvana. The second ant story is: The basis of the discussion is that (the Buddha) was residing in Nyayanavana, and the detailed reasoning is as it appears in the Damamūka-nidāna. When the venerable Ajñātakauṇḍinya saw the truths, eighty thousand gods also saw the truth. Then, the monks requested the Buddha, the Bhagavan, "Venerable Bhagavan, you have satisfied Kauṇḍinya and the eighty thousand gods with the essence of the sacred Dharma, and you have placed them in the ultimate auspiciousness and the bliss of nirvana." The Bhagavan said, "Not only now, but also in the past, how I satisfied these eighty thousand gods, including Kauṇḍinya, with my own flesh and blood, and gave up my life, listen. Monks, in the past, not far from a secluded place, in a hole lived an animal, a mouse, who was very compassionate, had a loving nature, and was kind to sentient beings. It lived on roots and fruits and did not want to harm anyone. One day, it went out to forage and was seen by a hunter, who captured it alive, skinned it, and released it. The hunter took the skin and left. Then, the mouse felt unbearable pain and went to a riverbank, lying down on the cool ground. After that, not far away, there was an anthill, and eighty thousand ants lived in the anthill. An ant came out of the anthill, went to the mouse, saw that the mouse had no skin, and returned to its nest, telling the other ants. The eighty thousand ants came out of the nest and climbed onto the mouse's body. Then, they started eating, and the mouse woke up, seeing that its body was covered with ants. Bodhisattvas, even if their bodies fall into wrongdoing, their minds will not fall into wrongdoing. The Bodhisattva thought: 'Although I am able to liberate myself, the lives of so many sentient beings will be lost because of this, and I am striving for the benefit of sentient beings, so my life...'

It is easy to let go. It is not right to harm the lives of these sentient beings for no reason. If I must die, I will surely die from this harm. What is my task? It is to completely give up my body for the benefit of sentient beings. Thinking that these are urging me, I resolve myself, sit without saying anything, and pray to attain the unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment. Alas, may this root of virtue enable me to become the teacher of the blind world, without a guide or protector, to liberate those sentient beings who have not been liberated, to free those who have not been freed, to enable those who have not breathed to breathe, and to lead those who have not attained Nirvana into Nirvana, the Thus-Gone One, the Arhat, the Perfectly and Completely Enlightened One, endowed with knowledge and conduct, the Well-Gone One, the Knower of the World, the Tamer of Beings, the Unsurpassed One, the Teacher of Gods and Humans, the Buddha, the Blessed One. How I now satisfy these beings with my own flesh and blood, just like that, I gave away my life. Likewise, when I attain the unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment, I will also satisfy these beings with the essence of the sacred Dharma, and place them in the ultimate liberation and blissful Nirvana. Monks, what do you think? The one who was born as the ant king at that time, who abided in the conduct of a Bodhisattva, was myself. The eighty thousand ants that were transformed at that time were these eighty thousand gods. At that time, I also satisfied these beings with my own flesh and blood, and gave away my life. Now, I also satisfy these beings with the essence of the sacred Dharma, and place them in the ultimate liberation and blissful Nirvana. The field of conduct: The origin of the story is that he was staying in Shravasti. The Shravakas of the Buddhas, the Blessed Ones, have two great seasons of natural assembly: the time of the summer retreat in the middle of summer, and the end of autumn. Among them, when the middle of summer is approaching the summer retreat, the monks think in their minds

Having received those differences, they would go to live in mountain crevices, mountain caves, grass huts, wildernesses, cemeteries, forests, and remote dwellings, and spend the summer retreat there. On the fifteenth day of the autumn small month (the eighth month in the Tibetan calendar), they would come out and speak of what they had realized, and ask about what they had not yet realized. Then, a certain monk, having made a distinction in the regions, went from place to place, and from his travels he went to Shravasti. There, he put down his bowl and robes. Then, in the morning, having put on his lower garment and robes, he took his bowl and went to Shravasti for alms. He was newly arrived and had never been there before, he was of little knowledge and unskilled in the area of practice. He went to Shravasti very late. When he went to Shravasti, he saw other monks with their hands full and their bowls filled, returning. He thought, 'I should ask these monks where there is a place for practice here, and where one can easily find alms.' So, he went to Venerable Ananda and asked, 'Venerable Ananda, I am not familiar with the places for practice in Shravasti. Please show me a place where I can easily find alms.' Ananda thought contemptuously and pointed out the house of a Brahmin who was of good character, auspicious, and of unruly conduct and without faith, saying, 'Go to this house, and from there you will receive alms.' Then Ananda left. After that, the monk went to that house, and the Brahmin was preparing to go to another village for some business. He thought, 'This shaven-headed person wearing colored clothes has come before me, this is inauspicious!' So, he seized the monk and beat him violently with fists and feet, threw him away and abandoned him. The monk's head was broken, his patchwork robe was torn, his bowl was shattered, and his belt was broken. Having come out of that house, he thought, 'I would rather be without food.' So, he went to Prince Jeta's Grove while fasting. The monks saw him and asked, 'Venerable, have you been attacked by savages?' He said, 'Yes.'
