Having obtained bedding, cushions, medicine for healing, and medicinal supplies, many people thought of only showing respect to that one. They did not show respect to the Tripitaka master who had been living there before. Then, when that person had the thought: 'If this bhikshu does not come to this village vicinity, I will have the best gain and the best fame. If he comes, my gain and respect will decrease. If he is not here, my gain and respect will return to what they were before. Therefore, I must somehow make sure that this person, along with his attendants, does not stay in this village vicinity.' Thinking this, that Tripitaka master spread untrue rumors in that city: 'These bhikshus are immoral and possess sinful teachings. Do not think of respecting them. What is the use of me, an immoral person, and my immoral attendants staying here?' That's what he said. Then, as soon as those people heard these words, they stopped looking at that arhat and stopped thinking of giving alms and showing respect. Then, that arhat thought: 'Why are these people not looking at me?' Thinking this, he observed that the Tripitaka master was spreading rumors. Then he thought: 'If the non-virtue of these people and that Tripitaka master increases too much, that would be bad.' Thinking this, he left that village vicinity with his attendants. After he left, that Tripitaka master was happy, thinking: 'Now my gain and respect will return to what they were before.' Then, one day, he became ill, and although he was treated with medicines from roots, stems, leaves, flowers, and fruits, he could not be cured and died. After he died, he was reborn, and after passing away, he was born in the great hot hell, where his tongue was plowed by a plow. Bhikshus, what do you think? The one who was the Tripitaka master at that time is this being, because he was greedy for gain and respect and was very attached, so he spoke untrue things to the arhat.

Due to the maturation of the karma of slander, a sentient being was born in the great hell of Avīci. His tongue was plowed with furrows and ridges. Monks, from the time when the Tathāgata Samyaksaṃbuddha did not decline until now in my time, that sentient being died and transmigrated from various hells, and was born only in hells, experiencing only such suffering. Request: Venerable one, when will that sentient being be liberated from that suffering? The Blessed One said: Monks, in the future, there will be a Tathāgata Samyaksaṃbuddha, named Supreme, who will surpass the level of Śrāvakas and Pratyekabuddhas, appearing in the world. In his teachings, this sentient being will die and transmigrate from hell, obtain a human body, and become ordained in his teachings, abandoning all defilements, and directly realize Arhatship. Slander will also increase, and wherever he goes, he will encounter slander, and simply because of this, he will become weary, and finally enter the realm of Nirvāṇa without remainder, where his suffering will reach its end. Then, immediately after hearing this, many ordinary people developed great weariness. The Blessed One also realized that their minds had become weary, and therefore taught the Dharma that was in accordance with this. Therefore, among those assemblies, some generated warmth. Some generated the peak and the forbearance that accords with truth, as well as the supreme of worldly Dharma and the samādhi of the path of seeing. Some directly realized the fruit of stream-entry. Some directly realized the fruit of once-returner. Some directly realized the fruit of non-returner. Some, having become ordained, directly realized Arhatship. Some generated the seed to become a universal monarch. Some will become a universal monarch of power. Some will become Indra. Some will become Brahmā. Some will attain Śrāvaka-bodhi. Some

Some generate the Bodhi of the Pratyekabuddha, while others generate the seed of the unsurpassed, perfectly complete Bodhi. Among those retinues, most are inclined towards the Buddha, enter the Dharma, and are established in the Sangha. || || Karma Shatatama, Volume Fifteen. The story called "Kham" is as follows: While residing in Jeta Grove in Shravasti, the Blessed One addressed the monks, saying: "Monks, if beings also knew the result of giving as I know it, and also knew the ripening result of the distribution of giving, then even from whatever remains of the last bit of food, if they find a worthy recipient, they would not eat it without giving or distributing it. And their minds would not be troubled by the arising of miserliness. However, because beings do not know the result of giving, nor do they know the ripening result of the distribution of giving, therefore they eat without giving or distributing, due to the mind of clinging, and their minds are troubled by the arising of miserliness." The Blessed One spoke thus. After the Sugata spoke those words, the Teacher further spoke these verses: "The ripening of distribution, how it becomes a great benefit, as spoken by the great sages. If beings understand, they will not eat without giving, nor will they become miserly. Their minds of clinging will never arise. Because children are obscured by ignorance, everyone does not understand. Therefore, with the mind of clinging, they always eat without giving. They arise with miserliness, and their minds are troubled." Then the monks said to the Blessed One: "Venerable One, the Blessed One speaks the praise of giving and the distribution of giving." The Blessed One
