Everywhere became a place to be respected, revered, depicted, offered to, and honored as an Arhat, and they were endowed with the highest gain and fame. At that time, in a certain forest, there lived a hermit with five hundred attendants. He had two Brahmin youths who were intelligent, clear, open-minded, and had gone beyond all treatises. Then one day, that hermit thought, "While I am living in this hermitage of asceticism, I am unable to benefit many people. Rather, I should establish myself near a village." So, not far from that place, he built a hut of branches and leaves and lived there. That place became a place to be respected, revered, depicted, and offered to. Later, that hermit also grew old and could not go to those places. At that time, those two Brahmin youths would go there, and go to the kings, great ministers, wealthy people, householders, people of the palace retinue, merchants, and captains. Those two were respected, revered, depicted, offered to, and honored as Arhats there. Then one day, the guide had a thought: "Before, I was the one to be respected, revered, depicted, and offered to in all this land. Now, whatever gain and respect I had has been transferred to these two Brahmin youths. If these two are not here, my gain and respect will return to what it was before. I should spread untrue rumors about these two, and they will lose service and respect, and I fear they will leave." So, the guide immediately spread untrue rumors, saying, "These two are those who indulge in desires; these two are not celibate." Then, when the hermit saw that untrue accusation against those two, he stopped the guide, saying, "Brahmin, do not harbor resentment towards these two Brahmin youths. You will be harmed and disadvantaged for a long time.

It was called "Suffering has become, Tare." Thus, although that hermit repeatedly tried to stop it, he could not prevent it, and therefore he harbored hatred towards those two, causing sentient beings to fall into hell. Monks, what do you think? At that time, at that time, that old hermit, who abided in the conduct of a Bodhisattva, was myself. At that time, those two who became Brahmin boys were none other than Shariputra and Maudgalyayana. At that time, the one who became the leader was Devadatta. At that time, even though I was stopping him, he still harbored hatred towards those two, causing sentient beings to fall into hell. Now, even though I am stopping him, he still harbors hatred towards Shariputra and Maudgalyayana, causing sentient beings to fall into hell. Then, the monks asked the Blessed One: Venerable, what deeds did Shariputra and Maudgalyayana commit that, as a result of the maturation of that karma, that monk, in the midst of the assembly, accused them with untrue, incorrect, false, and lying words, groundlessly, with a defeatist Dharma? The Blessed One said: Monks, the deeds done and accumulated by these two in the past will not mature in the external earth element, nor will they mature in the water element, fire element, or wind element, but the virtuous and non-virtuous deeds done and accumulated will only mature on the aggregates, elements, and sense bases that are grasped. The actions of embodied beings, Even after hundreds of eons will not be wasted. When assembled and the time has come, They will manifest as their own fruit. Monks, in the past, in a place called the city of Dust Accumulation, there lived two ascetics with five hundred attendants. In that city, all the people revered, honored as teachers, regarded as examples, offered to, and revered as Arhats, and they were endowed with the highest gain and fame. At that time, in a mountain valley, there lived a hermit with five superknowledges, great magical powers, great strength, and five hundred attendants.

There lived a possessor, who was a great being, an embodiment of loving-kindness, endowed with compassion, amiable to sentient beings, and engaged in benefiting sentient beings. He thought: "While residing in a monastery, I am unable to benefit sentient beings. I must settle in the city of Dust; by residing there, I will be able to benefit a great multitude of people." So, he stayed in the monastery as long as he pleased, and then, accompanied by five hundred attendants, carrying deer skins, clothes made of tree bark, staffs, bowls, spoons, and containers, he went to the city of Dust. There, he settled in a forest, building a hut of branches and leaves to live in. Then, many people living in the city of Dust saw that he was beautiful in body, beautiful in mind, and his attendants were beautiful. Having seen this, most of the people developed a great liking for that sage. Having developed liking, they respected the sage, regarded him as their guru, regarded him as an example, made offerings to him, and served him with all kinds of provisions. The sage also taught the Dharma from time to time to those who came there. Having heard the Dharma from him, some of them renounced and went forth in the presence of the sage himself, developing the four concentrations and the five supernormal knowledges. Some, while remaining in their homes, properly took up the path of the ten virtuous actions and came to the sage's place from time to time to see him. From then on, they no longer went to those ascetics. Then, later, those ascetics thought: "Previously, many people living in the city of Dust respected us, regarded us as their guru, regarded us as an example, made offerings to us, and we were greatly endowed with the best of wealth and the best of fame. Since this sage has come, our wealth and respect have diminished. In any case, we must make this sage and his attendants not stay in this place. If he is not here, our wealth and respect will return to what they were before." So, they said to the Brahmin youths: "Brahmin youths, know that
