Having slept with another, this householder returned and killed that man. Moreover, due to attachment and love for that woman, he was born in this woman's womb. Look, child! He eats the flesh of the one who is his father, and discards fish bones and tartar at the one who is his mother. The one who was killed by the enemy who committed adultery is held in his lap. Therefore, one should be disgusted with the faults of samsara, for this is very amazing! Then, the monk Maudgalyayana's son, in order to make many future people disgusted, explained this very meaning in verses: He eats the flesh of his own father, and discards bones and tartar at his mother. He nourishes the adulterer of his wife, obscured by ignorance and attachment. This person is one whose life is exhausted but whose karma is not exhausted. There are also people whose karma is exhausted but whose life is not exhausted. What is that? It refers to a person who was previously happy but later became miserable, and a person who was previously miserable but later became happy. That person is one whose karma is exhausted but whose life is not exhausted. There are also people whose karma and life are both exhausted. What is that? It refers to a person who, as a sentient being, transmigrates from hell and is born as an animal, and from an animal transmigrates and is born as a hungry ghost, and from a hungry ghost transmigrates and is born as an asura, and from an asura transmigrates and is born as a human, and from a human transmigrates and is born as a god, and so on. That person is one whose life and karma are both exhausted. There are also people whose life and karma are not exhausted, but their afflictions are exhausted. What is that? It refers to stream-enterers, once-returners, non-returners, and arhats, and so on. That person is one whose life and karma are not exhausted, but their afflictions are exhausted. There are also people whose body is happy but whose mind is not happy. What is that? It refers to ordinary common people who perform meritorious deeds, whose body is happy but whose mind is not happy. For example, the Brahmins, householders, and King Mandhata of Magadha, and so on. That person is one whose body is happy but whose mind is not happy. There are also people whose mind is happy but whose body is not happy. What is that? For example, the arhat Kara-mashaka, whose mind is happy but whose body is not happy. For example, the noble Shonottara in a previous life washed the solitary Buddha's

Having given cow dung and kapitha sukara to scrub, in order to wash away dirt, by the maturation of that karma, the body is seen to be full of beauty. Thus, it is said in verses: Karma is very powerful, from vajra-like karmas, whatever I am dominated by, I will experience suffering karmas. Like that. Jiangga Kasha, a Pratyekabuddha came to the place of Varanasi, thinking to give food, but after a long time, he gave food after the time had passed. Even though he became noble in the next life because of that karma, if he begged for alms in the morning, it was like getting food after the time had passed. Such a person is happy in mind but unhappy in body. Some people are happy in body and happy in mind, what is that? This is because the Arhat has exhausted defilements and performed meritorious deeds. For example, Kuva, the son of King Dharmakirti, roars like a lion. He was ordained and lived to be eighty years old, and never had a headache even as a child. It is said that this is because he used to be a spice merchant in Varanasi, and he offered medicine to treat diseases to the Shravaka Sangha who believed in heretical paths, and offered haritaki to the Arhat, and by the maturation of that karma, he obtained freedom from disease and supreme bliss. Such a person is happy in body and happy in mind. What karma is associated with it? Some people are unhappy in body and unhappy in mind, what is that? This is because ordinary people who have not performed meritorious deeds, who have lost the clothes, food, and drink of their caste and lineage, and who wander in other people's homes. For example, those who are afflicted by diseases such as leprosy, vomiting, plague, scabies, and itching, who have no limbs, and who are blind. Such a person is unhappy in body and unhappy in mind. So, what karma is associated with some people, that even though they are born in the lower realms, they are handsome and beautiful, their bodies are smooth, their complexions are bright, their eyes are charming, and they are pleasing to the eye? What is that? Those who have evil behavior arising from desire will be born in the lower realms. For example, peacocks, parrots, mynah birds, and birds
