Walking, one obtains destruction like the extinguishing of an eye. Whoever abandons all actions and does what should not be done, and boasts with negligence, their outflows increase. Whoever's outflows increase, their freedom from outflows is far away. Whoever's mindfulness is constantly well-applied to the body, and does not do what should not be done, and constantly does what should be done, and is endowed with mindfulness and awareness, their outflows are all extinguished. Whoever's outflows are extinguished, they attain freedom from outflows. Those who speak much are not holders of the sacred Dharma. Those who hear little here, but realize the Dharma with their bodies, those who are diligent in the Dharma, they are the holders of the sacred Dharma. Even if one speaks much with intelligence, but is negligent and impure, they will not act accordingly. Just as a herdsman counts the cattle of others, they do not obtain a share of the ascetic life. Even if one speaks little with intelligence, but practices the Dharma according to the Dharma, and abandons desire, hatred, and delusion, they obtain a share of the ascetic life. Praising diligence and constantly rebuking negligence, diligence surpasses even a hundred offerings, and is the chief among the gods. Whether one should act or not, the wise praise diligence. The wise, accompanied by diligence, well take up two meanings. Whatever is the meaning of this life, and whatever is the meaning of the next life, they understand with steadfastness, therefore they are called wise. A monk delights in diligence and sees negligence as fear, freeing himself from bad destinies, like an elephant emerging from a mud swamp. A monk delights in diligence and sees negligence as fear, shaking off sinful dharmas, like the wind blowing leaves from a tree. A monk delights in diligence and sees negligence as fear, the subtle and coarse bonds go away like being burned by fire. A monk delights in diligence and sees negligence as fear, all bonds are completely exhausted, and gradually experiences peace. A monk delights in diligence and sees negligence as fear, the cessation of all activities, the peace of peace, individually realizes the state of peace. A monk delights in diligence, and

Fear is seen in attachment, Because it is close to nirvana, It is impossible to completely regress. Endowed with diligence and mindfulness, One who practices the Dharma well, In this world and the next, Happiness is attained by practicing the Dharma. Rely on learning for the sake of peace, Generate effort and diligence. Forgetfulness and carelessness, Little diligence and no total control, Sleep, laziness, and distraction, These are obstacles to learning. You should understand those limbs, Do not eat food that causes forgetfulness. A monk with good morality, One who delights in mindfulness, Skillfully pacify all thoughts, Constantly guard your own mind. One should strive and depart, One should enter the Buddha's teachings, Like an elephant destroying a reed house, One should destroy the army of the Lord of Death. Whoever in this discipline, Practices with mindfulness, Having completely abandoned the cycle of birth, Will be able to end all suffering. The fourth chapter on mindfulness. From affection arises sorrow, From affection arises fear, If all affections are abandoned, There is no sorrow and no fear. From attachment arises sorrow, From affection arises suffering, from affection arises fear, If attachment has changed, Then aversion can be obtained. The various sufferings of the world, And all the wailing and lamenting, These all arise from affection, If affection is abandoned, then these will not arise. Why is it that in any place in the world, Those who have no affection are happy and without sorrow, Therefore, for those who seek the meaning of freedom from heat and dust, One should never create attachment at any time. Not seeing the beloved causes suffering, Seeing the unlovely is the same, One should never meet with the beloved at any time, Nor should one meet with the unlovely. Because of separation from the beloved and, Because of meeting with the unlovely, From this, the unbearable sorrow arises, Causing the impure elders to arise. When the beloved has died, Relatives, friends, and all good teachers, For a long time with sorrow and, Because of separation from love, suffering arises. Whoever has no beloved or unloved, That person has no bondage, Therefore, attachment is truly sinful, One should not create attachment to attachment. Seeing attachment and abandoning meaning, In the happiness of
