Leading with correct view, having correct thought as the field of activity, correctly knowing birth and death, subduing sleep and drowsiness, a monk obtains the cessation of suffering. Guarding the mindful mind, taming the mind, proper discipline is happiness. Beings deceived by the mind, suffer alone in hell. Guarding the mindful mind, taming the mind, proper discipline is happiness. Beings guarding the mind, obtain Nirvana alone. The chapter on the mind, the thirty-first chapter is complete. A monk who begs for alms only for himself, satisfying himself but not nourishing others, the gods rejoice in that protector who is always peaceful and mindful. A monk who begs for alms only for himself, satisfying himself but not nourishing others, the gods rejoice in that protector, but not in respect, wealth, and desires for fame. A monk who has abandoned all desires, cleared away the dust in front of him, relying on the Selfless Victorious One, does not need to preach to others. People harm you with unkind words, even if you hear those unpleasant words, why does a monk not think that he should be free from hatred? Just like an elephant in battle being struck by arrows. People harm you with unkind words, even if you hear those unpleasant words, why does a monk not think that he should be well-established in mindfulness? Just like an elephant in battle being struck by arrows. Even if he does not live by craftsmanship, he rejoices in the owner of the field, his senses are tamed, he is liberated from all things, he is not attached to family, he has abandoned reckless desires and craving, he practices alone, that is a monk. Living a pure life, without laziness, relying on harmonious friends.
