What is the end of suffering? When all cravings are cut off, attachment is completely abandoned, and the ocean is dried up and does not flow, this, indeed, is the end of suffering. When the body is destroyed and feelings become cool, perception ceases, formations are pacified, and consciousness vanishes, this, indeed, is the end of suffering. Seeing is merely seeing, hearing is merely hearing, knowing is merely knowing, and consciousness is merely consciousness, this, indeed, is the end of suffering. This and not this, and extreme grief, this, indeed, is the end of suffering. Without hope, without joy, utterly peaceful, and completely free from attachment, this, indeed, is the end of suffering. Because there is dependence, there is action. Because there is action, there is attachment. Because there is attachment, there is extreme untamedness. Because there is extreme untamedness, there is going and coming. Because there is going and coming, there is rebirth elsewhere. Having taken rebirth elsewhere, thus there is birth elsewhere, aging, sickness, death, sorrow, lamentation, suffering, displeasure, and disturbance arise, and thus this great mass of suffering arises. Because there is no dependence, there is no action. Because there is no action, there is no attachment. Because there is no attachment, there is extreme tamedness. Because there is extreme tamedness, there is no going and coming. Because there is no going and coming, there is no rebirth elsewhere. Because there is no rebirth elsewhere, thus there is no birth elsewhere, aging, sickness, death, sorrow, lamentation, suffering, displeasure, and disturbance cease, and thus this great mass of suffering ceases. Monks, there is the unborn, the unbecome, the unmade, the unconditioned, the unoriginated. There is birth, becoming, the made, the mind-made, the conditioned, and dependent origination. Monks, if there were no unborn, unbecome, unmade, unconditioned, and unoriginated, then birth, becoming, the made

And, I do not say that there is the arising of conditioned things, things made by the mind, and the arising of dependent origination. Monks, because here there is the unborn, the unoriginated, the unmade, the unconditioned, and the unarisen, for that reason. I say that there is the arising of birth, coming, fabrication, conditioned things, things made by the mind, and the arising of dependent origination. Birth and coming and arising, fabrication and conditioned things are impermanent, of old age and death and ignorance, those with qualities, are utterly destroyed. Do not rejoice in this destructible one that arises from the lineage of food. The basis of that certain arising, thought and observation and peace, and the cessation of all suffering dharmas, the bliss of the pacification of actions is near. Monks, that will not abide anywhere, it will not abide on the earth, not in the water, not in the fire, not in the wind, not in the sphere of infinite space, not in the sphere of infinite consciousness, not in the sphere of nothingness, not in the sphere of neither perception nor non-perception, not in this world, not in the other world, not abiding on the two, the sun and the moon, I know that without any object. Monks, I do not say that there is going and coming to that, it is not abiding. I do not say that there is death, it is not birth. This such is the end of suffering. Earth and water and fire and wind, not abiding anywhere, that is not illuminated by white, that also has no darkness, that is not illuminated by the moon, that is not manifested by the sun. Whoever is the capable Brahmin, he knows it himself. That is completely liberated from form and formlessness and all suffering. Reaching the other shore, there is no fear, no arrogance, no regret. Cutting off the arrow of existence, it has become the last of the body. This is the supreme of those who have reached the other shore, the unsurpassed state of peace, all signs are exhausted, the state of liberation is immortal. The capable one has completely abandoned the arising of similarity and dissimilarity. With joy in inner equipoise, having broken out of the eggshell. All giving is dharma.
