Through understanding, also perform vast virtues. Just as the Kava Kula flower of summer, blooms exceedingly. Likewise, monks should abandon desire, hatred, and delusion. Those who are extremely attached in the minds of humans, accumulating greatly like flowers, the Lord of Death seizes and departs, like a sleeping person swept away by water. Those who are extremely attached in the minds of humans, accumulating greatly like flowers, are not satisfied by desires, and the Lord of Death makes them subject. Those who are extremely attached in the minds of humans, accumulating greatly like flowers, do not transform into the arising of enjoyment, and the Lord of Death makes them subject. Those who are extremely attached in the minds of humans, accumulating greatly like flowers, before their deeds reach completion, the Lord of Death makes them subject. Having realized this body to be like a bee, and likewise knowing all phenomena to be like mirages, those who cut off the supreme flower of Mara here, go unseen even by the King of Death. These worlds are realized to be like bees, and likewise knowing all phenomena to be like mirages, those who cut off the supreme flower of Mara here, go unseen even by the King of Death. Having realized this body to be like a bubble, and likewise knowing all phenomena to be like mirages, those who cut off the supreme flower of Mara here, go unseen even by the King of Death. These worlds are realized to be like bubbles, and likewise knowing all phenomena to be like mirages, those who cut off the supreme flower of Mara here, go unseen even by the King of Death. These worlds are realized to be like bubbles, and likewise knowing all phenomena to be like mirages, those who cut off the supreme flower of Mara here, go unseen even by the King of Death. Like the existence of the Udumbara flower, whatever monk thinks of it as without essence, that one is a goer to the further shore, not the near shore, abandoning it like an old snake shedding its old skin. Like a water-born flower with roots dwelling in the water, whatever monk cuts off all desires, that one is a goer to the further shore, not the near shore, abandoning it like an old snake shedding its old skin. Like a water-born flower with roots dwelling in the water, whatever monk cuts off all hatred, that one is a goer to the further shore, not the near shore, abandoning it like an old snake shedding its old skin.

Just as a snake sheds its old skin, like a lotus flower at the base of its stem standing in water, whichever monk cuts off all ignorance, he is the other shore, not belonging to this shore. Just as a snake sheds its old skin, like a lotus flower at the base of its stem standing in water, whichever monk cuts off all pride, he is the other shore, not belonging to this shore. Just as a snake sheds its old skin, like a lotus flower at the base of its stem standing in water, whichever monk cuts off all attachment, he is the other shore, not belonging to this shore. Just as a snake sheds its old skin, like a lotus flower at the base of its stem standing in water, whichever monk cuts off all craving, he is the other shore, not belonging to this shore. Just as a snake sheds its old skin, the eighteenth chapter, the chapter on flowers. Just as a good horse is whipped, it runs in fear and with great force, endowed with faith, discipline, and samadhi, and able to rightly discern all dharmas, with subdued senses, patience, and ease of companionship, these protectors abandon all craving. Just as a good horse is whipped, it runs in fear and with great force, endowed with faith, discipline, and samadhi, and able to rightly discern all dharmas, possessing intelligence and the marks of a great being, and mindful, the protectors abandon all suffering. Through taming and training, like a well-tamed horse, whoever is good at subduing the senses, abandoning anger and extinguishing the outflows, the able ones experience the realm of the gods. The diligent one overcomes the negligent, the many who do not sleep overcome those who sleep, the good horse is like a wild horse, the extremely wise one abandons and goes forth. Just like a whip for a good horse, whoever relies on knowing shame, and is well-established in wisdom, he eliminates sins. The tamed one goes to the desired place, the tamed one is especially ridden by the king. Whoever endures harsh words, the tamed one is the best among men. Like an elephant among elephants, a Sindhu thoroughbred horse, and a tamed mule, more excellent than these is taming oneself. Whoever is well-tamed in himself, the wise one will attain peace, but those mounts will not manifestly attain that land.

Impossible. Among elephants, there are great elephants, and Sindhu's trained horses, and those who tame mules, but better than that is taming oneself. Whoever is well-tamed and mindful, he will reach the end of suffering. Those who ride on those vehicles will not attain that place. Among elephants, there are great elephants, and Sindhu's trained horses, and those who tame mules, but better than that is taming oneself. Whoever is well-tamed and mindful, he will abandon all beings, but those who ride on those vehicles will not attain that place. Among elephants, there are great elephants, and Sindhu's trained horses, and those who tame mules, but better than that is taming oneself. Whoever is well-tamed, he will cut the bonds and depart, but those who ride on those vehicles will not attain that place. Just as a trainer trains a good horse, one should tame oneself. By well-taming oneself, one can reach the far shore of all sufferings. Oneself is one's own master, oneself is one's own refuge, just as a trainer trains a good horse, therefore one should tame oneself. The nineteenth chapter on horses is complete. If one abandons anger and completely abandons pride, one will surely transcend all bonds. Without attachment to name and form, because there is nothing, one will not fall into the traces of attachment. Abandon anger as soon as you are born, and abandon desire after birth. With steadfastness, completely abandon ignorance, and if you see the truth, you will be happy. Abandoning anger, one sleeps peacefully; abandoning anger, one will not suffer. O Bhikshu, abandoning anger, destroy the poisonous root of happiness, and you will be praised by the noble ones, and by destroying it, there will be no sorrow. Whoever, out of anger, says that he has done well, saying that he has not done badly, that person, after the anger subsides, will suffer as if burned by fire. Without shame and without embarrassment, an angry person has no ascetic practice. Whoever is conquered by anger, no one relies on him. Whoever has the strength of a child, his strength is powerless. A child who is separated from the Dharma, there is nothing to be accomplished. Whoever is endowed with strength, must also endure the weak.
