The five powers. Monks, what are the five powers? They are: the power of faith, the power of diligence, the power of mindfulness, the power of concentration, and the power of wisdom. Monks, these are the five powers. Monks, what are the seven limbs of enlightenment? Monks, here, a monk dwells in solitude, dwells in detachment, dwells in cessation, transforms through complete abandonment, and cultivates the limb of enlightenment of mindfulness; similarly, dwells in solitude, dwells in detachment, dwells in cessation, transforms through complete abandonment, and cultivates the limb of enlightenment of discrimination of dharmas; dwells in solitude, dwells in detachment, dwells in cessation, transforms through complete abandonment, and cultivates the limb of enlightenment of diligence; dwells in solitude, dwells in detachment, dwells in cessation, transforms through complete abandonment, and cultivates the limb of enlightenment of joy; dwells in solitude, dwells in detachment, dwells in cessation, transforms through complete abandonment, and cultivates the limb of enlightenment of tranquility; dwells in solitude, dwells in detachment, dwells in cessation, transforms through complete abandonment, and cultivates the limb of enlightenment of concentration; dwells in solitude, dwells in detachment, dwells in cessation, transforms through complete abandonment, and cultivates the limb of enlightenment of equanimity. 而且不是由见解而生。不是由断见和常见而生。不是由生起和坏灭的见解而生。不是由善、非善和无记的见解而生,乃至轮回和涅槃之间也不是由见解而生。这称为正见。什么是正思维呢?不思维那些会生起贪欲、嗔恚和愚痴烦恼的思维。思维那些会生起戒律、禅定、智慧、解脱和解脱知见之蕴的思维。这称为正思维。什么是正语呢?不以语言伤害自己和他人,不以语言使自己和他人烦恼,不以语言损害自己和他人,以及以语言使圣者们正确进入,并具有使禅定喜悦的词语。这称为正语。什么是正业边呢?不积聚导致黑色果报的黑色业,积聚导致白色果报的白色业,不积聚导致黑白混合果报的黑白混合业,积聚导致非白业成熟而黑色业灭尽的业,依止善业,以及善业边。这称为正业边。什么是正命呢?不舍弃通过修习圣种而获得的功德资具,没有虚伪,没有谄媚,没有以利衡量,是正直的,具有仪轨,不嫉妒他人的所得,以自己的所得为满足,以及圣者所允许的无罪过之生活。这称为正命。什么是正精进呢?为了避免导致邪恶,为了避免贪欲、嗔恚和愚痴增长的精进。

Moreover, it does not arise from views. It does not arise from views of annihilation and permanence. It does not arise from views of arising and destruction. It does not arise from views of virtue, non-virtue, and the indeterminate, even between samsara and nirvana, it does not arise from views. This is called right view. What is right thought? Not thinking of those thoughts that cause the arising of afflictions of desire, hatred, and ignorance. Thinking of those thoughts that cause the arising of the aggregates of discipline, concentration, wisdom, liberation, and the knowledge and vision of liberation. This is called right thought. What is right speech? Not harming oneself and others with speech, not afflicting oneself and others with speech, not harming oneself and others with speech, and with speech that causes the noble ones to enter correctly, and possessing words that delight in concentration. This is called right speech. What is right action? Not accumulating black karma that ripens into black results, accumulating white karma that ripens into white results, not accumulating mixed black and white karma that ripens into mixed black and white results, accumulating karma that causes non-white karma to ripen and black karma to be exhausted, relying on good karma, and good action. This is called right action. What is right livelihood? Not abandoning the qualities and resources obtained through the practice of the noble lineage, without hypocrisy, without flattery, without measuring by gain, being upright, possessing rituals, not being jealous of the gains of others, being content with one's own gains, and a blameless livelihood permitted by the noble ones. This is called right livelihood. What is right effort? Effort to avoid what leads to evil, effort to avoid the increase of desire, hatred, and ignorance.

Not desiring that effort, and following any effort that enters the truth of the noble path and places it on the path to Nirvana. This is called right effort. What is right mindfulness? Whenever one abides closely without wavering, with mindfulness, without deceit, correctly revealing the faults of the defects of samsara, and the mindfulness that leads to the path of Nirvana, not forgetting the noble path. This is called right mindfulness. What is right concentration? Any truly equal state, and the concentration in which one abides, entering into a truly firm determination in order to completely liberate all sentient beings. This is called right concentration. What are the sixteen aspects of mindfulness of breathing in and arising? If one breathes in mindfully, one thinks, "I am breathing in mindfully," knowing it completely as it is. If one breathes out mindfully, one thinks, "I am breathing out mindfully," knowing it completely as it is. If one breathes in long, one thinks, "I am breathing in long," knowing it completely as it is. If one breathes out long, one thinks, "I am breathing out long," knowing it completely as it is.
