One does not experience it without interruption. Because the portion of ignorance is small, one does not experience the suffering and discomfort arising from ignorance without interruption, but these five transcendent faculties are dull, weak, unsharp, and do not enter quickly. What are the five? They are: the faculty of faith, the faculty of diligence, the faculty of mindfulness, the faculty of concentration, and the faculty of wisdom. Because these five faculties are dull, weak, unsharp, and do not enter quickly, therefore, the contact with the uninterrupted concentration for the purpose of exhausting the outflows is dull. This is the path of slow and easy clairvoyance. What, then, is the path of quick and easy clairvoyance? Here, some by nature have a small portion of desire, a small portion of hatred, and a small portion of ignorance. Because the portion of desire is small, one does not experience the suffering and discomfort arising from desire without interruption. Because the portion of hatred is small, one does not experience the suffering and discomfort arising from hatred without interruption. Because the portion of ignorance is small, one does not experience the suffering and discomfort arising from ignorance without interruption, and these five transcendent faculties are also strong, sharp, and enter quickly. What are the five? They are: the faculty of faith, the faculty of diligence, the faculty of mindfulness, the faculty of concentration, and the faculty of wisdom. Because these five transcendent faculties are strong, sharp, and enter quickly, therefore, the contact with the uninterrupted concentration for the purpose of exhausting the outflows is quick. This is the path of quick and easy clairvoyance. These are the four paths. What are the four meditations here? Monks, if you constantly cultivate meditation, practice and increase it, you will be able to abandon desire. If you constantly cultivate meditation, practice and increase it, you will be able to abide in happiness in this very life. If you constantly cultivate meditation, practice and increase

If done in this way, one can also attain the manifestation of wisdom. If one constantly cultivates meditative concentration, cultivating and increasing it, one can also attain wisdom. So, what is it that if one constantly cultivates meditative concentration, cultivating and increasing it, one can abandon desire? Bhikshus, here, a bhikshu, whether dwelling in a monastery, or dwelling under a tree, or dwelling in an empty house, should truly and separately contemplate this very body, from the soles of the feet upwards to the hair, as being filled with various kinds of impurities. In this body there are hairs, beard, teeth, nails, dust, dirt, skin, flesh, bones, tendons, veins, kidneys, heart, lungs, liver, stomach, large intestine, small intestine, feces, bladder, spleen, excrement, tears, dust, snot, saliva, fat, pus, legs, grease, pus, phlegm, bile, blood, brain, marrow, urine, filled with various kinds of impurities, truly and separately contemplate. Bhikshus, it is like this: for example, various kinds of grains, such as rice, millet, barley, wheat, peas, lentils, soybeans, rice spawa, small beans, peas nagu, sesame, husked rice, mustard seeds, filled in a bag with two openings, a person with eyes pours it out and examines it separately, then he will know that these are rice, these are millet, these are barley, these are wheat, these are peas, these are lentils, these are soybeans, these are rice spawa, these are small beans, these are peas nagu, these are sesame, these are husked rice, these are mustard seeds. Bhikshus, similarly, a bhikshu, whether dwelling in a monastery, or dwelling under a tree, or dwelling in an empty house, should, as before, from the soles of the feet upwards to the hair, be filled with various kinds of impurities.

and filled with various impurities such as pus, blood, phlegm, feces, bile, saliva, mucus, pus, blood, fat, oil, bones, marrow, impure substances, urine, and feces, accurately and individually contemplate them as they are. This is the practice of meditative concentration; if one constantly cultivates and increases it, one will abandon desire. Monks, what is the practice of meditative concentration that, if constantly cultivated and increased, will lead to dwelling in comfort in this very life? Monks, in this case, a monk, whether dwelling in a monastery, at the foot of a tree, or in an empty house, is filled with the joy and happiness born of solitary meditative concentration, making his own body supple, completely supple, completely pervaded, completely satisfied, and universally expanded. Just as the joy and happiness born of solitary meditative concentration leaves no part of his own inner body unpervaded or unpervaded. Monks, just as, for example, a blue lotus, a lotus, a water lily, or even a white lotus, all of which are born of water and submerged in water, are all softened, completely pervaded, completely satisfied, and universally expanded by the cool water. Monks, in the same way, a monk, whether dwelling in a monastery, at the foot of a tree, or in an empty house, is filled with the joy and happiness born of meditative concentration, making his own inner body supple, completely supple, completely pervaded, completely satisfied, and universally expanded. Monks, what is the practice of meditative concentration that, if constantly cultivated and increased, will lead to the attainment of wisdom and insight? Monks, in this case, a monk very skillfully grasps the perception of light, skillfully remembers it, skillfully touches it, skillfully comprehends it, and dwells very much in the idea of daytime, and cultivates that light in his mind, just as it is during the day, so it is also at night.
