Therefore, having abandoned attachment to joy, one dwells in equanimity, possessing mindfulness and awareness. The body experiences pleasure, and the noble ones describe it as possessing mindfulness, abiding in pleasure, and being in equanimity. Not dwelling in joy, having perfected the third dhyana, one abides. Furthermore, having abandoned pleasure, and having previously abandoned suffering, since both mental pleasure and displeasure have ceased, it is neither pleasure nor suffering, but equanimity, and with completely purified mindfulness, having perfected the fourth dhyana, one abides. Monks, these are the four dhyanas. What are the four Brahma-viharas? Monks, here, a monk abides pervading one direction with a mind imbued with loving-kindness, without hatred, without animosity, without harm, vast and expansive, without duality, with immeasurable intent, diligently cultivating it, focusing and saturating it, perfecting and abiding. Similarly, in the second direction, the third direction, and the fourth direction, above, below, horizontally, in all ways, throughout this entire world, with a mind imbued with loving-kindness, without hatred, without animosity, without harm, vast and expansive, without duality, with immeasurable intent, diligently cultivating it, focusing and saturating it, perfecting and abiding. Similarly, with a mind imbued with compassion, with a mind imbued with joy, and with a mind imbued with equanimity, without hatred, without animosity, without harm, vast and expansive, without duality, with immeasurable intent, diligently cultivating it, focusing and saturating it, perfecting and abiding. These are the four Brahma-viharas. What are the four paths? There is a path of slow and difficult realization, a path of quick and difficult realization, a path of slow and easy realization, and a path of quick and easy realization. What is the path of slow and difficult realization? Here, some beings are naturally inclined towards strong desire, strong hatred, and strong delusion. Because of strong desire, they constantly experience suffering and displeasure arising from desire. Because of strong hatred, they constantly experience suffering and displeasure arising from hatred.

体验讲述。由于愚痴的部分较多,因此不断体验由愚痴引起的痛苦和不适,为了使烦恼漏尽,那些超越世间的五根变得迟钝、虚弱、不敏锐,并且不会快速进入。五者为何?即:信根、精进根、念根、定根、慧根。由于这五种超越世间的根变得迟钝、虚弱、不敏锐、不快速,因此,为了使烦恼漏尽,接触无间三摩地本身就很迟缓。这是神通迟缓而困难的道路。那么,什么是神通快速而困难的道路呢?有些人天生贪欲的部分较多,嗔恨的部分较多,愚痴的部分较多。由于贪欲的部分较多,因此不断体验由贪欲引起的痛苦和不适;由于嗔恨的部分较多,因此不断体验由嗔恨引起的痛苦和不适;由于愚痴的部分较多,因此不断体验由愚痴引起的痛苦和不适。然而,他们的五种超越世间的根 变得强大、敏锐,并且快速进入。五者为何?即:信根、精进根、念根、定根、慧根。由于他们的五种超越世间的根变得强大、敏锐,并且快速进入,因此,为了使烦恼漏尽,接触无间三摩地本身就很快。这是神通快速而困难的道路。那么,什么是神通迟缓而容易的道路呢?有些人天生贪欲的部分较少,嗔恨的部分较少,愚痴的部分较少。由于贪欲的部分较少,因此不会不断体验由贪欲引起的痛苦和不适;由于嗔恨的部分较少,因此不会不断体验由嗔恨引起的痛苦和不适;

Experiences are recounted. Because the portion of ignorance is large, one constantly experiences suffering and discomfort arising from ignorance. In order to exhaust the outflows, these five transcendent faculties become dull, weak, unsharp, and do not enter quickly. What are the five? Namely: the faculty of faith, the faculty of diligence, the faculty of mindfulness, the faculty of concentration, and the faculty of wisdom. Because these five transcendent faculties are dull, weak, unsharp, and not quick, therefore, in order to exhaust the outflows, contact with uninterrupted samadhi itself is slow. This is the slow and difficult path of higher knowledge. What, then, is the quick and difficult path of higher knowledge? Some people are naturally inclined to have a large portion of desire, a large portion of hatred, and a large portion of ignorance. Because the portion of desire is large, one constantly experiences suffering and discomfort arising from desire; because the portion of hatred is large, one constantly experiences suffering and discomfort arising from hatred; because the portion of ignorance is large, one constantly experiences suffering and discomfort arising from ignorance. However, their five transcendent faculties become strong, sharp, and enter quickly. What are the five? Namely: the faculty of faith, the faculty of diligence, the faculty of mindfulness, the faculty of concentration, and the faculty of wisdom. Because their five transcendent faculties become strong, sharp, and enter quickly, therefore, in order to exhaust the outflows, contact with uninterrupted samadhi itself is quick. This is the quick and difficult path of higher knowledge. What, then, is the slow and easy path of higher knowledge? Some people are naturally inclined to have a small portion of desire, a small portion of hatred, and a small portion of ignorance. Because the portion of desire is small, one does not constantly experience suffering and discomfort arising from desire; because the portion of hatred is small, one does not constantly experience suffering and discomfort arising from hatred;
