Hero Shakyamuni When he was born from his mother's womb, his mother did not sit or lie down, but stood, and the royal mother gave birth to the royal lineage. It was not that she did not sit or lie down, but that she was adorned with the fivefold perfect discipline. It was while standing that the most virtuous youth was received here by Indra. By nature, when the Bodhisattva Shakyamuni was born from his mother's womb, the gods held a white jeweled umbrella above his head. An umbrella of light like a spotless moon, held by the lord of the gods above his head. Hands with rings flashing with light, and a fine whisk waving it. By nature, when the Bodhisattva Shakyamuni was born, one cool water and one warm water descended from the sky. Two streams of water flowed down from the crown of his head, and with this the Bodhisattva was bathed. Spotless, pure, cool and likewise warm water, bathed the lord of the two feet, in whatever lineage the Bodhisattva was born, the nagas also made offerings to him. By nature, when the Bodhisattva was born, a great spring appeared and flowed in front of the birth mother, and there his mother performed the act of bathing. Lord of the two feet, when the youth was born, the gods were exceedingly joyful, and there good water gushed forth, and there his mother acted with water. The musical instruments of the gods made exceedingly melodious sounds, and they beat them with great joy. They scattered clothes and garlands, and others bowed down and praised him greatly. By nature, when the Bodhisattva was born, the gods scattered from the sky heavenly utpala flowers, lotuses, kumuda, white lotuses, agaru powder, Chinese incense powder, sandalwood powder, and tamala leaves. They also scattered heavenly mandara flowers. The heavenly cymbals also made sounds. Clothes were also scattered. When the Buddha, revered by the wise, was born, fragrant and excellent rain of incense fell, and therefore, with their own pride and proper manner, with a supremely joyful heart.

Thus, praise is expressed. This will attain supreme enlightenment, benefiting sentient beings by ending suffering. To sentient beings who do not recognize the blinding eye of wisdom, this supreme physician will bestow the eye. This is the great lamp for sentient beings blinded by the veil of ignorance. For those ruined by wrong views and entering the wrong path, it will show the straight path that is not sought. It will completely block the path of evil destinies, and thus open the realm of the gods. The gods residing between Akanishta and the middle realms repeatedly proclaim in the realm of the gods. When the Bodhisattva Shakyamuni was born, in Shravasti, when Brahma-given was born from the ribs, Brahma thought thus: When my son was born, it appeared as clear as a clear object, therefore, let his name be called 'Clear King'. In the city of Rajagriha, when King Padma the Great had a son, King Padma the Great thought thus: When my son was born, it appeared as if the sun of the world had risen, and since he is the son of a mother with form, let his name be called 'Essence of Form'. In कौशाम्बी (Kauśāmbī), when King Hundred Armies had a son, King Hundred Armies thought thus: When my son was born, it appeared as if the sun of the world had risen, therefore, let his name be called 'Rising'. In the city of Holy Lineage, when King Infinite Wheel had a son, he thought thus: When my son was born, it was like the light of the world illuminating, therefore, let his name be called 'Very Bright'. It was not so. However, all of that was the power of the Bodhisattva. When the Bodhisattva Shakyamuni was born, five hundred Shakya youths, including Ananda, were born, five hundred Shakya maidens, including Name-Holder Mother, were born, five hundred attendants, including Desire, were born, and five hundred horses, including Well-Praised, followed. The gods also revealed the mouths of the five treasures. The local kings and the kings of the castles all paid great homage, and all offered tribute. Then, King Shuddhodana...

I thought to myself: 'When my son is born, all wishes will be fulfilled, so this youth's name shall be "All is Accomplished."' Thus, the bodhisattva was initially named. According to the Dharma, as soon as the bodhisattva Shakyamuni was born, his parents showed him to the soothsayers and fortune-telling Brahmins. O wise ones, if a youth possesses these qualities, there will be two possibilities, and not otherwise. If a householder remains in his home, he will become a wheel-turning king who conquers the four continents, a Dharma king of righteousness, possessing the seven precious things. These seven precious things of his will arise as follows: the precious wheel, the precious elephant, the precious horse, the precious jewel, the precious woman, the precious householder, and the seventh is the precious minister. The son will be brave, steadfast, possessing the most excellent form, and able to destroy the enemy forces. A thousand sons will arise, and they will conquer the entire great earth up to the ocean without resentment or harm, subduing it with righteousness and causing it to abide in peace. If he shaves his hair and beard, dons the saffron robes, and goes forth from home to homelessness with pure faith alone, then the Tathagata, Arhat, Perfectly Awakened One will be renowned in the world, possessing the thirty-two marks of a great being, surpassing the gods. If a youth possesses the thirty-two marks of a great being, there will be two possibilities, and not otherwise... up to the Perfectly Awakened One will be proclaimed in the world. As before, this is the Dharma here. To this it is said: When the king gave birth to a youth, he asked the Brahmins who knew the signs of a great man, and at that time they said: 'If the prince remains in his home, he will certainly become a king of men. Possessing power, he will become a wheel-turning king who rules over all other kings. This one will be victorious in all continents.'
