心想：大沙门乔达摩的心知道我的心了，这样想之后，就对薄伽梵这样禀告说：大沙门，如果我能在您善说的法和律中出家和受具足戒，获得比丘的身份，那么我将在大沙门面前修梵行。光护，你看了你的眷属了吗？大沙门，没有看。光护，因此，暂时看看眷属吧！在这里，像你这样不出名且有危险的人，看看眷属是很好的。之后，发髻光护前往自己居住的地方，到达后对婆罗门童子们说：婆罗门童子们，要知道！婆罗门童子们，如果我在大沙门面前修梵行，贤者们做什么？堪布，我们稍微需要的一切都依赖于堪布，如果堪布在大沙门面前修梵行，那么我们也跟随堪布出家。婆罗门童子们，你们因此把祭火器、树皮、手杖、钵盂和勺子这些东西扔到尼连禅河边去吧！堪布，如您所说，那些婆罗门童子们把祭火器、树皮、手杖、钵盂和勺子扔到尼连禅河边后，前往发髻光护所在的地方，到达后对发髻光护这样说：堪布，像这样，我们已经做了我们应该做的事情了。之后，发髻光护和五百眷属前往薄伽梵所在的地方，到达后对薄伽梵这样禀告说：大沙门，我已经看了眷属了，如果我能在您善说的法和律中出家和受具足戒，获得比丘的身份，那么我将在大沙门面前修梵行。光护，过来！修梵行吧！

Thinking, 'The great ascetic Gautama knows my mind,' after thinking this, he said to the Blessed One, 'Great ascetic, if I can go forth and receive full ordination in the Dharma and Vinaya well-spoken by you, and obtain the status of a monk, then I will practice the pure conduct in the presence of the great ascetic.' 'Light Protector, have you looked at your retinue?' 'Great ascetic, I have not looked.' 'Light Protector, therefore, look at your retinue for a while! Here, it is good for those who are not famous and are in danger like you to look at the retinue.' Then, Jata Light Protector went to his own dwelling place, and after arriving, he said to the Brahmin youths, 'Brahmin youths, know this! Brahmin youths, if I practice the pure conduct in the presence of the great ascetic, what will the wise ones do?' 'Preceptor, everything that we slightly need depends on the preceptor, if the preceptor practices the pure conduct in the presence of the great ascetic, then we will also go forth after the preceptor.' 'Brahmin youths, therefore, throw these sacrificial implements, tree bark, staffs, bowls, and spoons into the Nerañjanā River!' 'Preceptor, as you say,' those Brahmin youths threw the sacrificial implements, tree bark, staffs, bowls, and spoons into the Nerañjanā River, and after arriving at the place where Jata Light Protector was, they said to Jata Light Protector, 'Preceptor, like this, we have done what we should do.' Then, Jata Light Protector and the five hundred retinue went to the place where the Blessed One was, and after arriving, he said to the Blessed One, 'Great ascetic, I have looked at the retinue, if I can go forth and receive full ordination in the Dharma and Vinaya well-spoken by you, and obtain the status of a monk, then I will practice the pure conduct in the presence of the great ascetic.' 'Light Protector, come here! Practice the pure conduct!'
