Then he spoke: I am free from all the bonds of gods and men. You who create obstacles have been subdued by me. Evil one, know this. Then the evil demon thought: The mind of the ascetic Gautama knows me. Thinking thus, he felt pain, displeasure, and discouragement, and immediately disappeared. Then the Blessed One spoke to the monks a second time: Monks, I am free from all the bonds of gods and men. Monks, you too should be free from all the bonds of gods and men. Monks, for the benefit of many beings... and so on, as before, up to wandering in the fields. I also went to the prosperous city of Sde-can. The monks, having heard the teachings of the Blessed One, followed them and began to wander. Then, the Blessed One stayed in Varanasi for as long as he wished, and then went to the prosperous city of Sde-can to wander. Gradually, he wandered and arrived at the city of Sde-can. Then, the Blessed One went to the dense cotton forest, went to a tree, and stayed there as a daytime residence. At that time, a group of sixty good men were playing with music made by women outside the city of Sde-can every day, enjoying all kinds of pleasures. Among them, a woman broke her vow and ran away. Then, the group of sixty good men searched for the woman and came to the dense cotton forest. The group of sixty good men saw the Blessed One, beautiful, worthy of faith, with subdued senses, peaceful mind, extremely gentle mind, possessing peace and gentleness, shining with glory like a golden stupa, staying under a tree. Having seen him, they came to where the Blessed One was and said to the Blessed One: Blessed One, have you seen a woman? Young men, what is that woman to you? Venerable one, we

The assembly of sixty excellent youths was playing with music made by women behind the city of Vaishali. They were making merry, enjoying various pleasures, and we were playing with them. They were making merry. While enjoying various pleasures, one woman broke her vows and ran away, seeking us. Young men, what do you think? Which should we choose, seeking women or seeking ourselves? Venerable one, what have women done to us? We choose to seek ourselves. Young men, therefore, sit down and I will teach you the Dharma. Then, the assembly of sixty excellent youths bowed their heads to the feet of the Blessed One and sat down on one side. Having sat down on one side, the Blessed One thoroughly instructed the assembly of sixty excellent youths with Dharma-related talks, as before. Then, the assembly of sixty excellent youths, while sitting on that very seat, realized the four noble truths, namely: suffering, origin, cessation, and path. Then, the assembly of sixty excellent youths, having seen the Dharma, attained the Dharma, understood the Dharma, reached the depths of the Dharma, transcended doubt, transcended hesitation, not relying on others, not mixing with others, and having gained fearlessness in the Dharmas taught by the Teacher, rose from their seats, draped their upper garments over one shoulder, and, where the Blessed One was, bowed with folded hands and said to the Blessed One: Venerable One, we have attained. We have manifestly attained. We go for refuge to the Blessed One, the Dharma, and the Sangha of monks, may the Blessed One accept us as lay followers. From this day forward, for as long as we live, even at the cost of our lives, we are deeply devoted to taking refuge. Then, the assembly of sixty excellent youths rejoiced in the Blessed One's words, rejoiced in them, bowed their heads to the feet of the Blessed One, and departed from the presence of the Blessed One. Then, after that night had passed, the Blessed One, in the morning, put on his inner and outer robes, took his bowl and Dharma robe, and entered

I entered the city of Sde-can for alms. Then, when the Blessed One entered the city of Sde-can for alms, he thought to himself: To whom should I first teach the Dharma in the city of Sde-can? Then, the Blessed One thought to himself: I should first teach the Dharma to the village girls Gaga-mo and Gaga-stobs-ma, because they used to serve me with food as sweet as fresh butter, milk porridge, and honey when I was diligently practicing yoga to abandon suffering. Then, the Blessed One went to where the house of the village girls Gaga-mo and Gaga-stobs-ma was. The village girls Gaga-mo and Gaga-stobs-ma saw the Blessed One from afar. Having seen him, they prepared a seat for the Blessed One and said: Blessed One, please come this way. Blessed One, it is good that you have come. Please be seated on the seat that has been prepared. Having said this, the Blessed One sat on the seat that had been prepared. Then, the village girls Gaga-mo and Gaga-stobs-ma bowed their heads to the feet of the Blessed One and sat to one side. Having sat to one side, the Blessed One taught the village girls Gaga-mo and Gaga-stobs-ma with words that were in accordance with the Dharma, and from that point until they developed faith and took refuge, it was as before. Then, the village girls Gaga-mo and Gaga-stobs-ma said to the Blessed One: Venerable one, please accept a meal here for this reason. The Blessed One did not speak to the village girls Gaga-mo and Gaga-stobs-ma, and gave his permission by remaining silent. Then, the village girls Gaga-mo and Gaga-stobs-ma, knowing that the Blessed One had given his permission by remaining silent, and knowing that the Blessed One was sitting comfortably, prepared clean and excellent food and drinks. They served him with their own hands, satisfying him, and in various ways, they served him with their own hands, satisfying him with clean and excellent food and drinks. When the Blessed One had finished his meal, washed his hands, and knew that the bowl had been taken away, he took a very low seat and sat before the Blessed One in order to listen to the Dharma. Then,
