The Bodhisattva crossed over, put on the Dharma robes, and sat by the Nairanjana River. Then, the lord of the gods, Indra, knowing that the Bodhisattva was sitting comfortably, poured milk porridge as sweet as honey, mixed with a thousand portions, into a golden bowl and offered it to the Bodhisattva. The Bodhisattva also partook of it and made dedications. After that, the Bodhisattva searched for a place to sit on either side of the Nairanjana River. Before long, he saw a large rocky mountain full of flowers and various fruits, and he climbed it and sat in a secluded and bright place in the lotus position. As soon as he sat down, the mountain collapsed. Then, the Bodhisattva thought: What is the reason here that the mountain collapsed? Are the gods unhappy with my coming, or will some obstacles arise? The gods knew the Bodhisattva's mind and reported: Bodhisattva, there are two situations that all lands cannot bear: one is the cutting off of virtuous roots, and the other is the cultivation of virtuous roots. You are one who cultivates virtuous roots. This is not a place for Bodhisattvas to dwell, but please go forward. There is the Vajra Throne there, where all the Bodhisattvas of the past, future, and present have dwelt and attained unsurpassed wisdom, and will attain unsurpassed wisdom. Then, as the Bodhisattva went as the gods showed him the way, lotuses appeared where he placed his feet. Water also flowed from the four great oceans, forming lotus ponds. When he stepped and pressed down, the great earth began to make a sound like a clay pot. Birds and wild animals also circumambulated the Bodhisattva. The sons of the wind-blowing gods also gently blew the wind. The sons of the rain-falling gods also slightly rained. Near the Nairanjana River, there lived a blind Naga king named Time. There, a place arose from the maturation of his karma. When he became a Buddha, he gained sight. When he completely passed into nirvana, he would become blind again. When he heard the sound of the earth, he came out of his dwelling and from afar saw the body of the Bodhisattva, adorned with the thirty-two marks of a great being, endowed with eighty excellent signs, adorned with a fathom of light, with rays of light surpassing a thousand suns, beautiful in every way like a moving mountain of jewels. As soon as he saw the Bodhisattva, he began to praise him in verse: With a voice filled with joy, Having heard the sound of the earth, Having come forth from the abode of the Naga, He looks in all directions. The chief who goes on his breast, The Naga king with great power, On the banks of the Nairanjana, Saw the guide of the world arrive. By the power of the Buddha's arising, The Naga gained sight, With a joyful heart and a satisfied mind, He spoke these words: The Buddhas of great power, Whom I have seen in the past, When I see you, the capable one, There is no difference from them. Capable one, when you first, Lift your right foot, You have become a Buddha today, You have become the source of merit for the world. When you put on the Dharma robes, And in the cool waters of the Nairanjana, When you enter, You become a Buddha today. When you walk with a steady pace, And walk like a supreme bull, You are the supreme among men, the best of Dharma holders, Today you become the supreme Buddha. When hundreds of thousands of parasols in the sky, Cover your vast body, Revolving and circling around you, King of men, today you become the supreme Buddha. When the fragrant wind blows, And the herds of deer and birds are not frightened, And the trees are not swayed by the wind, King of men, today you become the supreme Buddha. 因为美丽且具光彩，这位人中之王如今将成无上正等觉佛陀。之后，菩萨龙王时节赞叹后，便从金刚座旁离开了。然后，菩萨心想，我应当坐在草垫上。当需要草时，天界之主帝释天以其心知晓菩萨的想法，于是从散发着檀香味的山上，取来了一捆触感如迦支布般柔软舒适的草，化身为吉祥草商的模样，站在菩萨面前。菩萨说道：面容姣好之人，请将这草献给我吧！ 众神之主帝释天以头触碰菩萨的双足，恭敬地献上了草。菩萨从吉祥草商手中接过草，以那吸引天人和世人的行为，使众生生起信心，并沿着众神所指引的道路，前往菩提树所在之处，依靠着如同三千大千世界之轮的轴心一般的金刚座，他小心地将草铺开，不使其散乱，也不使其过于稀疏或密集，然后发愿并立下誓言：直至我获得断绝一切痛苦的，无漏的正见之前，即使生命走到尽头，我也绝不离开这个跏趺坐！说完，菩萨登上金刚座，结跏趺坐，如同胸怀宽广的鸟王休憩一般，端身正坐，保持正念。就在他坐下的那一刻，恶魔波旬的住所开始震动。于是，恶魔波旬心想，为何我的住所会震动？当他看到菩萨坐在金刚座上时，恶魔波旬心想：释迦族的净饭王之子坐在金刚座上，在我未离开我的领地之前，我必须阻挠他！于是他化身为一个送信使者，头发竖立，穿着尸纳颜色的下裙。

Because of his beauty and radiance, this supreme among men will now become the supreme Buddha. Then, the Bodhisattva, the Naga King Dushyanta, praised him and departed from the Vajra Throne. Then, the Bodhisattva thought, 'I should sit on a grass mat.' When the need for grass arose, Indra, the lord of the gods, knowing the Bodhisattva's thoughts, took a bundle of grass that felt as comfortable as Kashi cloth from the fragrant mountains, and manifested himself as a auspicious grass vendor, standing before the Bodhisattva. The Bodhisattva said, 'O fair-faced one, please offer me this grass!' Indra, the lord of the gods, touched the Bodhisattva's feet with his head and offered the grass with reverence. The Bodhisattva took the grass from the auspicious grass vendor, and with his actions that captivated gods and humans, he inspired faith in beings, and following the path shown by the gods, he went to where the Bodhi tree was, relying on the Vajra Throne, which was like the axle of the wheel of the three thousand great thousand worlds. He carefully spread the grass, not letting it scatter, nor making it too sparse or dense, and then made a vow and said, 'Until I obtain the unadulterated right view that cuts off all suffering, even if my life comes to an end, I will not break this lotus posture!' Having said this, the Bodhisattva ascended the Vajra Throne, sat in the lotus posture, like a broad-chested bird king resting, straightened his body, and remained mindful. At the very moment he sat down, the abode of the evil Mara trembled. Then, the evil Mara thought, 'Why is my abode trembling?' When he saw the Bodhisattva sitting on the Vajra Throne, the evil Mara thought, 'The son of Shuddhodana of the Shakya clan is sitting on the Vajra Throne. Before he leaves my territory, I must obstruct him!' So he transformed himself into a messenger, with his hair standing on end and wearing a lower garment the color of a corpse.
