He saw people carrying banners, carrying a coffin, holding torches in front, a large crowd of people walking in front, and women with disheveled hair crying and following behind. After seeing this, he said to the charioteer: "Charioteer, what is this with people carrying banners made of various colored cloths, carrying a coffin, holding torches in front, a large crowd of people walking in front, and women with disheveled hair crying and following behind?" "This god is called death." "Charioteer, what does it mean to be called death?" "This god will no longer see his poor parents, sons and daughters, male and female servants, laborers, and people who live on wages, and they will no longer see him either, so this god is called death." "Charioteer, have I not also transcended the law of death and the nature of death?" "The god has not transcended the law of death and the nature of death either." "Charioteer, therefore turn the chariot back! Let's go to the palace! Like this, after I return to the palace, I must contemplate the meaning of the fact that I have not transcended death." The charioteer turned the chariot back and headed towards the palace, and there, after Bodhisattva Shakyamuni entered the palace, he thought that he had not transcended death and felt displeased and unhappy. Here it is said: "Having exhausted his life and lost consciousness, seeing a lifeless corpse, thinking that I have not transcended death, from then on he was displeased and unhappy." After that, what King Shuddhodana said to the charioteer, etc., is the same as before. Here it is said: "In that sacred, glorious, and desirable city, like a lamp, he became the god above the gods, fully enjoying the pleasure of the five desires, like living in the garden of a thousand-eyed delight." Then the gods of the Pure Abode thought to themselves: "Although the Bodhisattva has the power of cause, it is still necessary to create conditions. Like this, even if the power of cause is great, it still depends on the power of conditions." Thinking this, they manifested a person with disheveled hair and wearing a kasaya, hand...

Then he manifested a monk holding a bowl, wandering from house to house, from room to room. As mentioned before, it is said that by nature, the Bodhisattva should go to the garden. In the garden, Bodhisattva Shakyamuni saw a person with shaved hair, wearing robes, holding a bowl in his hand, wandering from house to house, from room to room. After seeing him, he said to the charioteer: Charioteer, this person with shaved hair, holding a bowl in his hand, wandering from house to house, from room to room, his clothes are also of a different color, why is he different from others? This is a renunciant. Charioteer, what is a renunciant? The divine renunciant is good at taming, good at upholding vows correctly, good at practicing righteousness, good at practicing Dharma, good at practicing virtue, good at practicing good and auspiciousness, understanding these, he shaves his hair and beard, wears robes, and renounces his home for no home solely because of pure faith. This divine being is a renunciant. Charioteer, therefore turn this chariot to where the renunciant is. The charioteer replied: As you command. The charioteer, listening to the instructions of Bodhisattva Shakyamuni, turned the chariot to where the renunciant was. Then Bodhisattva Shakyamuni said these words to that renunciant: Hey, why do you shave your hair, hold a bowl in your hand, wander from house to house, from room to room, and your clothes are also of a different color, why are you different from others? That person replied: Young man, I am called a renunciant. Hey, why are you called a renunciant? Young man, because I understand being good at taming, good at upholding vows correctly, good at practicing righteousness, good at practicing Dharma, good at practicing virtue, good at practicing good and auspiciousness, therefore I shave my hair and beard, wear robes, because of pure faith.
